S&W Model 39

I just picked up a S&W Model 39 9mm.

I know a few of you might remember yours from the service years ago. It is a sweet little gun with hardly no wear at all.

Hopefully I will get out to shoot it soon.

AAAWWWW!!!! Don't say that!! I loved mine and carried it too. It was flat and very easy to use. I also found it to be very accurate with 115-124 grain bullets. My pistol also fed Speer 115 gold dot HP ammo very well.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use +P or +P+ ammo in it.

These guns are not rated for it.

Is your model a 39-2 or an original 39? You can tell by a long extractor vs a spring loaded axtractor. Some of the older models would break the long solid extractor because people were using +P ammo.

Original 39 with a pretty low #. When I saw it I knew that I needed to have it. It really is an amazing piece. I know that I will take it out on occasion but there is no blue wear so it had never been a holster.

WOW!! Great piece man!! Call up S&W and see if you can get some info on it! They have some really extensive records and I found out mine was an original Illinois State Police pistol. One of the first Auto's used by a Major police agency in the USA.

Yeah I need to write them to see if I can get a letter on it. It might improve the value a little.

The M-39 is reliable and inherently accurate but the extractor springs were always a weak point and it is usually a good idea to replace it just to be on the safe side.

Did this search and found:

Also a Pachmayr grip if yer interested:

I was in a store outta town yesterday and found a Mag for 20 bux! The guy said he had put it out that day. My 39-2 is not in the greatest of shape since it's the one that my dad carried forever, but hey it's the one that my dad carried.

By the way - NO LIMP WRISTING this machine...it will FTF/FTE. If I dont tell a new person shooting it they always jam it up. I haven't had an issue when I use it however. Someone told me I should have the ramp polished and that could help. (Comments?)
