Are Sig and HK about the same in quality?
The price seems to be about the same, but are they the same in quality, workmanship, durability.
I always want an HK in 45 or 40 as a pride plinker with friends; taking out coffee cans, rotten fruits, old appliances and furniture. I guess it is my way of kick starting the recycle process. It is nice to be able to experience the art of each firearm company, especially the premiere makers such as Sig, HK, Wilson Combat, etc. Any input is greatly appreciated. |

Depends on what model, etc. But generally, I'd say yes, they're comparable.

HK is one of those companies that when it makes a product it is above and beyond anything out there, Except maybe that squeeze cock pistol they made some years back the PSP or something rather

This is a great question!
To be honest, I don't know which one is better, only that they are both very good, but severely over-priced. I have an FNP-9, and it shoots so well, I don't even need an HK. In fact, I shoot my FNP better than I shoot my friends HK USP-9mm. Figure that out. Surprised and delighted me, personally. That aside, Sig likes to make their frames out of aluminum I believe, or some kind of alloy. HK is polycarbonate kind of material. Both are good guns. I really like the HK USP, but was disappointed that it doesn't work well for me. I simply shoot better with my FN, and his Sig P226 than his HK. The Sig feels more solid to me, and the wee-bit of extra weight actually helped me handle the gun better. That's my personal experience, anyway. Hope that helps. In terms of quality and workmanship, Sig and HK seem to do very well in that catagory. |

I own a P226 & HK USP, both in 40S&W.
The HK is a larger pistol. Or at least it seems that way to me. The slide seems thicker too on the HK. (Now you got me wondering exactly how much. I will have to go put them on the MIC to check). Overall though, you can not go wrong with either pistol. The only huge difference is the polymer frame of the HK vs. the alloy frame of the P226.

j/k. I own a Sig 226 (9mm) and the original USP-40. I like them both. I don't think there's been a quality issue with either. The only thing I've noticed about the HK is that the mag release was originally made so big and places where the second finger (the bird finger) could hit is accidentally and release a mag when attempting to draw the weapon quickly. But as I said before, that's a functional issue... not a quality problem. I think they've made it smaller since then to help avoid that problem. But to its defense, that release design was made to allow handling with gloves on. I guess it was good for that. As far as the original question, I think they're pretty even. But HK's customer support supposedly sucks, so the quality had better be great.
