Just bought one myself last month but with a blue bbl instead of a SS one. Shoots very nice, but......

Mine was just sent back to Savage. I've tried 3 scopes, 3 sets of rings and 2 different sets of mounts to try and get it sighted in. Every combination results in the scope being way to the right and the scope runs out of windage adjustment to get it zeroed in.

It wasn't until after I mounted a set of Burris mounts on it that it was clear the scope mounting holes were not lined up resulting in a "twisting" affect between mounts and aligning the scope way to the right.

With that said, I have heard very positive feedback on the accuracy of the 93R. Mine shot accurate but off center... We'll see how Savage decides to handle the matter.

I think $414 is a bit on the steep end. Mine is a model 93R BTV(RJ) and I bought it new for just over $300 from a dealer.

I've got the non thumbhole version, my father has the thumbhole version.

Both shoot great, and are deadly accurate.

HIGHLY reccommend for short range (out to 200 yards) varmint removal.

I had the same problem with mine, but I put on a set of Weaver mounts and cured it right now.

$359 at Dick's with an included Simmons POS scope. I changed the scope out for a 4X16-50mm Mueller and shot this group at 100 yds on a very breezy day.

Here is my rifle now.

One problem I noticed with it, and other Savages I have heard of is you have to keep wiping down the barrel in order to keep up with the rust. I do not think this is a problem with SS barrels.

I shot a groundhog at 120 yds in the chest. Made it about 10 feet and croaked.

I didn't try the Weaver bases but Burris makes a mount that also fits Knight Disc rifles that fit the 93R. I thought these might fix the issue because it uses the Leupold style rings and has the windage adjustable screw on the rear plate. I did get it to work but the rear base had to be adjusted to the extreme right of the base and I was still at the extreme limit of windage adjustment on the scope.

I've used the factory weaver style bases with Burris rings and Leupold rings, the generic weaver rings that came with the scope, and the Burris mount with Leupold rings AND 3 different brands of scopes all with the same results.

Yeah, I'd send it back too. Must be misaligned...

That $400.00 price tag is MSRP, NOT what I would pay for it. If I remember right, Gander had it for mid 300.

Well I had stuff from another hobby that I no longer have time or money for so I took it to the shop today and its being sold on consignment. As soon as it sells, Ill be buying a .17 HMR . I just want to make sure Im getting a decent rifle. Anything else in the mid 300 range that shoots as well or better? Ive not kept up with the .17 craze. I want something thats VERY accurate and of good quality.

Thanks

I love my Savage 17. Of course, I got the blued varmint barrel in the plastic stock for $169. Shot some 5 shot goups in the low 3s at 50 yards. Great on big jackrabbits to 150 yards.
