Gun vs Knife

I have read the gun vs knife debate. I shared it with my neighbor that a knife at 7 yards is a problem. We did an quick experiment. He drew his trusty single action six gun from his tied down holster and I ran at him from about 7 yards (yes, he was facing away from me). I got 2/3 there before he got his shot off (theoretically of course).

I hope we can go shooting together sometime. I want to time his draw to first shot.

I must be getting slow!

Of course his comment was don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Even if the guy is shot, he could still slash or stab you.

During one of my training classes over the year on my dept., we were told even if the heart was blown out of the body, the guy could conceivably still have about 15 seconds before the brain knew he was dead. In other words he could still stab/slice you as was said.

If the guy was on drugs, even worse.

I know of a case where the guy was on pcp and killed a woman with a hatchet. A number of deps. shot him; one put 5 in the 10 ring (.3. It took 16 rounds, 2 of which were 00 buck, to finally kill him.

Or most ironic of all, fall over dead with the knife extended in a clenched hand stabbing you.

Thanks for the info. I had forgot how long it takes even a heart shot to stop someone. We will skip testing both of these.

Shooting pattern: Heart, head, crotch, knee, knee. Don't forget to side strafe back and forth while doing this. Maybe throw in some bunny hopping for good measure.

It's not just the PCP you need to worry about, Meth has about the same effect. I just watched a thing on Meth, I always knew that chemicals used to manufacture it were hazardous and required a enviromental clean-up but I didn't know some of the actual chemicals. You put that crap in your body, you deserve the side effect other than the high...
