Remington 870 or Benelli Supernova?

So, I'm still looking for that first shotgun. A 12 gauge, for HD and some trap shooting. I like the reliability of the 870, but I made the mistake of picking up a Supernova while browsing guns today. It's a winner, and about $70 more expensive than the 870, not a big difference. The thing feels so sweet, quick acquisition and nice feel/look to it.

Am I missing something here, should I just go for the Benelli?

No, you are not missing anything. The Supernova is a great shotgun. However, if you are looking to modify it in any way you will spend more money then you would on an 870. I was in your situation a few years ago and went with the 870 due to the fact that there are so many aftermarket accessories for it. When I was shopping I had a very hard time finding a HD barrel for the SuperNova, atleast one that was affordable. The 870, however, I picked one up off eBay for $110. Plus I just added an extension tube that is top notch for $45 from Midway. I don't think I could ever done so well with the Supernova.

But again, if you are looking to keep the weapon in its current configuration, you can't go wrong with either.

Chris has the right idea. The 870 has so many aftermarket mods available for it it will make your head spin. It's also rock solid reliable and a dang nice shooting gun.

I vote for the Benelli.

I have the Nova. Love it. I want the Super Nova, but it's gonna have to wait. Way too many other things that will take precedence.

I like owning different firearms and when I went looking for my HD gun, I went to an 870 as well. i already had one but I wanted one JUST for HD. Benelli makes a great gun but the aftermarket just doesnt support it enough yet.

I went through the same decision process a few weeks ago. I ended up getting the 870 Express Super Mag in synthetic and I love it. I can do just about anything I want to this shotgun. Maybe when I have some extra dough I'll spring for Benelli for now the Remington is great.

I have both, and both are great guns. I have had an 870 super mag for about 2 years and a supernova since Christmas. Can't go wrong with either one but if I had to choose one over the other, it would be the 870 super mag, it has been tried and true and been through the pits.
