1943 Russian Mosin Nagant M91/30
I found a Russian Mosin Nagant M91/30 today for $89. The stock was in good shape had decent rifling, and still gunked with cosmoline. The numbers matched and had markings similiar to these http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/0106.jpg. Is this a good price for the gun ?

That's about what they sell for around here. I paid the same amount for my 91/30 a year ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

IIRC, that triangle w/ arrow means it's an Izhevsk arsenal mark. What year is it, anyway?
I'd pay that for a 91/30, so it's a good deal to me. Have fun cleaning the cosmoline out/off.

most don't. but that doesn't matter since it is hard to find a wartime rifle that matches 100%. You outghta see the refurb process......stripped rifles and stocks and piles of parts all mixed up, then reassembled to make a working rifle, head spaced, covered in cosmo, tagged and put into storage.....

On surplus/commercial ammo yes they typically are because the ammo was designed for a rifle with a 31 1/2" barrel. it took some time for the Russians to 'tune' the ammo for smaller barrels. I do know that the 90's production "7N1" 'sniper' ammo that was developed for the SVD performs extremely well in the carbines. You should group at least an inch tighter if you do your part with a good condition 91/30 over an M44, M38, 91/59, or 91/38 carbine.
If you want better accuracy from a standard rifle, buy an Finn....M27, M28, or the M39. the M39 is the last 'infantry' version of the Mosin rifle, and should out shoot any Russian 91/30......even the 'snipers'...

Or skip the Mosins altogether and search out a nice M-1896 Swedish Mauser or Swiss K-31 Schmidt-Rubin if accuracy and high build quality are your main concearns.
My Finnish M-27 is a good shooter...better than any other Mosin I have ever shot, but it won't keep up with the Swedes or Swiss on the range. - Brickboy240
