What steps have to be taken in order to get a California CCW? What are the biggest hangups that crappy Cali has? Anyone?

Depends on the County (which County are you?). I'm in Placer County, where CCWs are issued provided you're able to give rationale justification other than "I want it for self-defense and support my 2A rights." You can check the DOJ website for (http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/statistics.php) counties that tend to issue vs. those that don't.

You'll have to document either lifestyle, occupational or other reasons that might put you at greater risk of harms way.

Also, you'll have to take/qualify at CCW course. Best of luck!

Very detailed info on the requirements is here: http://www.calccw.com/Forums/general...ts-ca-ccw.html

You'll need to look up your county/city to see how likely it is that you even have a chance to be approved. You'll also want to consult some of the people there before submitting your "Good Cause".

Also remember that some counties will issue to non-residents. For a number of years, Tehema County was the "go-to" county for CCW in NorCal.

Packing.org has a pretty good list by county as to how easy/hard it is to get your permit.

Key word - was.

From another website:
Quote:
Tehama County, circa 1996/7 or so. 20+ gunnies from the SF Bay Area go in together on an apartment rental in Red Bluff. They use that address for CCW with Sheriff Heard of Tehama. Nobody tells Red Bluff PD what's up. The gunnies use it as a "weekend party zone" (nothing too wild mind you, they were a sane bunch). Red Bluff PD notices all sorts of comings and goings, decides they have a crack house on their hands. They raid it one weekend with guns drawn down on about a dozen gunnies.

By some miracle, nobody fires a shot. Once it's sorted out what's up, Red Bluff's Chief is *furious*, Red Bluff's newspaper goes bonkers, Sheriff Heard loses the next race.
By law, you must be a resident in the county you apply in. The only exceptions are if you work in the county (and even then it's only good for 90 days) or various LEO type exceptions i.e. Reserves.
Packing.org used to be great, but it is outdated. Try www.calccw.com.
