AK Prices
I'm in the market for an AK, maybe an AR......the other day I looked at a new Yugo Underfolder, in 7.62, all black, with plastic furniture....$599 on the tag, dealer said he could go $550+GA sales tax.....still about the same money.
I only know about what I've gathered from reading posts here and am shying more and more away from an AR ( too many to choose from and I can't nail one down that I like, other than the RRA Tactical)....and leaning to the AK. They had a cheaper one in .223 with wood, but I didn't like the grip/stock config.( $350). I'm looking to get one this week. Thanks for any input.

If you have a dealer close to you that will do a transfer, check out Aimsurplus for pretty good pricing on some Romanians.

I hear lots of bad things about romanian guns, what's the fuss?
That STG2000C on the aimsurplus site seems like a cool gun.

www.centerfiresystems.com You can get a Yugo AK shipped to you're FFL cheaper than he can sell it to you, if he doesn't stiff you on the transfer fee. Whats your budget, if its 'large enough', buy an Arsenal brand AK from Aim...

Is there anything wrong with romanian rifles? I like to know why the bad press comes about.

Because they are imported as single stack guns, Century Arms hacks the magwell and mag support rails so it will accept double stack hicap mags. These new rifles lack the quality finish and workmanship that the SAR series had. The rifles are fine, just not as pretty as all the others. Century doesn't QC the product. They work and are cheap. Some have issues like severe trigger slap (easily fixed in about 10 minutes with a file), canted sights and gas block (easy to fix by removing the retaining pins, aligning, redrill for a new pin), lack luster furniture finish, sometimes feeding issues (usually because they forget the 'spacer' at the mag latch), mag wobble (more of an annoyance than problem to some), some mags don't fit or are extremely tight (usually mag well cuts are sloppy).....easy to fix at home if you're willing, if not, you return it for another. If you buy from Aim, Inter Ordnance, Centerfire Systems, Atlantic, etc...they will exchange it for you and it will cost you nothing-they will pay for shipping both ways. If you do decide to ever buy one mail order, check it over BEFORE you pay your FFLs transfer fee...just incase you're local laws require a transfer for repairs or your dealer wants a 'handling charge' for sending it back and you only pay once....

Ah I see, so they're basically tools instead of something to be hung on the wall. Tinkering doesn't bother me much, I'm fairly use to even welding on tough projects.
Sounds good enough for me. Considering there's a hole of a long gun in my collection, I will be checking into these. Thanks for the info.
