found it, thought it was pretty good on the price, they run $150+ more than that here.

Meh, you can get a rock river for about that. I'm no expert, but I did notice right away that it only has a single stage trigger, while the RRA comes standard with a two-stage.

So is this S&W a good buy for a 1st timer on an m-16 style weapon?

S&W is a fine AR15. I want their new M&P AR15Tactical. However if I were to spend $800-$900 on a .223, I would buy the RRA CAR model.

If you dont mind paying $150 for Smith and Wesson to paste their name on the side of an AR15, its a great deal...

S&W AR's are made from the exact same parts as Stag AR's. To pay any more than you would for a stag is foolish.

Technically, every trigger that comes in a off-the-shelf LPK is a single-stage trigger

I don't know anything about Stag (or really much about AR-15's at all), but when I decided I wanted one I solicited the help of my gunsmith, who is also a close personal friend. He told me to go RRA. He also likes the CARs.

That is an excellent price on a S&W rifle. It will be far better than almost anything else in that price range.

The first item is a kit, and all you need is a stripped lower receiver. Assembly is easy for those of average mechanical inclination.

If you have a complete lower receiver, the rest of the items on that page are complete uppers, and will snap right on.

Very basic description, if you want me to go a little more in depth, just ask. If you shop well, you should be able to get the same thing as the S&W for a hair over $700.
