1911 in the future??
I am considering buying a new 1911 after reading some of the posts on here about them. I probably wouldn't carry it on duty so I would use it as a joy gun or possibly get into competition. The only 1911's that I can honestly remember how they felt when shooting them were the Para's. I liked them but no one on here really says much about them. I like the SA loaded features and have seen the Spartan on here also. I currently shoot a 40tactical. I enjoy training in real life scenarios, run and gun, barricade to barricade, shooting from the hip, building searches, fast fire, etc. I like night sights and especially like the sig night sights and the springfield custom night sights. A four pound trigger is heaven to me. short re-set and travel. nothing over a five inch barrel. I do like the idea of more than eight rounds in a weapon but I also have semi-small hands. Point me in the right direction so I can do some research to find what I am looking for. warranty is a big thing too.
Thanks.

I will always have a special place for the 1911. For me, its a natural fit and I have always been able to shoot them well. I have had a couple of Colts and currently have a Springfield 1911 Custom. A 1911 is what I went through a Defensive Handgun class with at Thunder Ranch a number of years ago as did the majority of the others in the class.
I carried one for the first several years after I got my CHL however, if the 1911's has a downside its weight. At 40 ounces dry, and a limited magazine capacity (in single stack configuration) of 7 or 8 rounds depending on the magazine, that necessitates carrying two extra mags.......the setup gets fairly heavy if you carry it all day. That being said, it's easy to conceal and if you can deal with the weight, its makes a great carry weapon. From a competition or just fun at the range perspective, its hard to beat a good 1911. I can never see myself not having at least one in my collection. There are a number of very good quality 1911s on the market to chose from that would serve you well. Good luck. |
