Taurus revolvers?

I was looking into a small framed revolver in .357 recently. I was leaning toward the ruger sp101 over a smith and wesson, mainly because of price. I was looking for some fishing gear today and went into a sports store I don't usually go to and ran across some taurus revolvers that were on sale. I've never shot anything from taurus and was wanting some input from anyone who has. If I remember correctly there was a model 605 5-shot for $319 and a model 65 6-shot for not much more. Both in stainless.

I have a 455 Tracker (.45ACP) and I love the thing. I heard a lot of horror stories, but I'm not fond of S&W since I think they are over-priced and the type of people who "have to have" them. Not knocking the owners who like them, as I have one, too. Just the ones who are like that.

Anyways, the grips are weird but once you get used to them. I haven't had any of the reported problems with it. The fact that is is a 45 is so KEWL!

You mentioned Ruger. If you don't want to pay for a Smith, get the Ruger over the Taurus, unless you are like me and love the look of the vented barrel on the Taurus. A better gun. Built like tanks. Nothing fancy like a Ferrari, just a good old reliable top-of-the-line-Chevy. If Ruger chambered the GP100 in .45 ACP I'd get one, but they don't so....

I own a Taurus model 85 .38 Special five shot snub and a .22 LR target revolver and like them. When I had my FFL many years ago, I sold a lot of Taurus .357 Magnums to people looking for a good quality revolver at a reasonable price.

I always considered them well screwed together and a good bargain.

I have a Taurus 851, their light weight version. I just replaced the springs with lighter springs and the thing is awesome. Easy to carry, now easier to shoot. I also have CT laser grips on it. Sweet!

I wouldn't rule out the Ruger, it's a great tough as nails gun for a good price. I have a Rossi 357 and even with all the horror stories of old Rossis,(built by taurus now) this has been a great gun for even twice the $$$.

I'll second TOJAZ, it's hard to beat the durability of a Ruger Revolver.

Here's a pic of my 617B 7-shot .357 2"-er. I have not had any problems with it at all. I've had it for just over two years now.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, don't let people tell you a 2" bbl. revolver can't shoot past 5, 10, 15 whatever yards. Once you get used to the trigger (DA is long and heavy, but smooth as glass) and SA is super short and super crisp) you'll shoot just as accurately with it as with any other handgun. My 2" taurus groups as well as my 4" XD at 25 yards.

I have the Taurus Tracker Model 627 and love it. It is a .357 Magnum stainless with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. It had been very reliable and fun to shoot.
