Would you trade: XD-40 for Colt 1991

I was approached last week by a co-worker who is interested in trading a like-new Colt 1991 .45acp for my like-new XD-40.

From what I gather, he purchased three 1991's a few years back as gifts to his father and brother, but his brother's wife wouldn't let him keep it....so it's been sitting pretty much unused in it's box for a few years. Blued finish with wood grips.

My XD-40 has somewhere between 1,500-2,000 rounds and was purchased just over 1 year ago. Service model with 3-dot (white) sights. Also had a cheap uncle mags holster and 2-mag pouch.

Would it be a smart move?
It looks like the colt's are selling for about $600(ish) while I paid $459 for my XD...so money wise it would be a good move. I don't own a 1911 type handgun, but have wanted one for some time. Neither gun is/would be a carry weapon...just targets/plinking.

Thoughts please!

From what you have described it would appear to be a good deal for you. Let us know what you decide to do.

Do you have another XD? If so, make the trade. Do you like the 1911 style better than the XD? The 1911 might give you better accuracy with the smoother trigger with less over all travel and a longer sight radius.

Look at it this way, you get a nice 1911 for your trade and if you want another XD, you can always pick up one up for less than $500 again.

I don't have another XD, unfortunately. And I really do love my service model...but to be entirely honest with you (and myself) the only reason I opted for the XD was because, at the time, I couldn't find a fair price on a good 1911--In fact, I couldn't seem to find anything locally under the $750 price point. Since money is always a factor..........

I have zero regrets buying the XD, it's been a great firearm...and if I do make the trade, you can sure as heck bet I'll buy another soon. I wouldn't be able to live without it It'll probably get replaced with a s/c, though...

I can't believe how quickly you all responded. I think $$$ wise it would be a good move. Sure, I'd be without an XD for a short while but as mentioned, I could buy another XD for less than I could buy a decent 1911. I think the colt would be a better choice than the Rock Island Armory I've been contemplating...IMHO, no collection is complete without some type of 1911!!!

I guess I'll be taking the XD out this week for one last hurrah!

Oh- and depending on your location, if you don't go through with it, tell your friend you know someone with an XD-40 w/ approx. 750 rds down the tube that would be HAPPY to make the trade!

ENJOY!

Oh, I'm about 99% sure it'll happen.

But, I could give you the number of a guy who's trying to get rid of his new (50rnds fired) Sigma

So, now that you've pretty much made up your mind, are you going to swap out the hammer and add a beavertail and maybe a new trigger? Or will you leave it well alone?
