First 22 adult rifle
I shot a lot of 22s when I was young but with the price of ammo and all I thought I would buy a 22 rifle. I don’t want to spend $1000s but want a real accurate gun. I am thinking of ordering a Savage Arms Model MARK II-FSS and putting a Mueller APV 4.5–14×40 AO scope on it. Any comments or recommendations?

Ruger 10/22 and pimp it dude, lots of add ons for the 10/22.
Then again, maybe pimping a gun is not very adult? |

Thats a very nice rifle. I have a Savage semi auto but without the Accu-trigger and I love it. Heard really good things about the accu-trigger, dont think you'll be disappointed.

I've got the Mark II FV rifle with the bull barrel and synthetic stock. It's a fine gun and is stout enough to make it feel like an "real" rifle, since alot of .22's feel like kids toys. I put a Simmons .22 mag scope on it, and it works just fine.
I highly recommend the Accutrigger if you can get it. It's easily the best trigger on a .22 rifle in it's price range. It's easily as accurate as alot of people's tricked out 10/22's right out the box, so if accuracy is what your after, you should be fine with the Savage. |

I kinda like the idea of a Thompson Center carbine!

rtparso, if you haven't been already, start cruising rimfirecentral.com to get a feel for your rifle in question.
Funny. I've been pondering a Mark II-FV recently. That, and a 10/22. Price shopped the 10/22 locally, but didn't have much luck nailing down the Mk II-FV. Either one, or the other (or both if I'm lucky) will be purchases for next year. I have been enjoying shooting my Ruger Mk II pistol and Winchester model 62 so much this year that I'd like to expand my .22 stable.

Yea I looked at the 10/22 I love the look of the Target w/ the hammerd SS barrel. I think the Savage bolt will be more accurate out of the box w/ the acuset trigger. I also like the 10/22 addons but lets see 300 for the base gun 150 for a better trigger 150 for a nice stock 150 for a good scope = 600 tp 1000+ for a 22. If I am going to spend that much I will build an AR. The stevens is 200 NIB and the scope is 100. 300 for a tight fun shooter is more my style. I do love to look at the rigged out 10/22s though.

Find a Used Anschutz 64 target rifle. Should be able to find one in the $350-$400 range.
