Holly~Molly!!! .357 Magnum 1st time shooting one.
I was at the range today with my newly bought 3 hour old XD 9mm
Got to talking to a gentleman who had a nice looking revolver with a pretty long barrel on it. While we were talking he mentioned his revolver. I asked if it was a .357 magnum, and also that I had not ever shot one. Not really wanting to shoot his gun he said "I'll let you shoot mine." He continued to put 3 rounds in the gun. Two brass .38 rounds, and a silver high power magnum .357 hollow point defense round, he called it. The .38 rounds actually felt like shooting a .22 in that big gun. Then came the .357 magnum round. I bared down on the target (not being afraid), squeezed the trigger. BOOOOOMMMMMM!!!! Everyone in the range looked over at us (indoor range.) I just turned to the man and said HOLLY DAMN! That was the most powerful experience I have ever had. Fire shot out about 4 feet or more, and the recoil, while quite a bit more than my nine was manageable. I just could not imagine my ears without protection when that went off. What and experience! |

Try a .44 mag next, Then work your courage up and rent a .500 S+W magnum. Make sure it has some of the hot Corbon ammo in it.

This had some hot ammo. He called it something. Maybe it was CorBon.
It was a huge silver casing with a deep hollow point. I'll try the .44 magnum soon. I was kind of interested in getting a .38. I noticed I made one mistake when picking out this pistol (XD9mm) I did not shoot a revolver. That was a nice feeling. The revolver was really quite the experience. I am totally happy with my choice. I wanted and auto, but next gun "REVOLVER" for sure. |

Forget the Corbon, get some Double Tap, even hotter! I like shooting some thru my Ruger SP101 snubby.

that's it that is what he said.. something, something tap. defense round. said it was a hot magnum. I am not hip to all the lingo yet, but that was what he said. they were in a plastic slider of like 10. I don't know if that was the correct package, but I believe he said that. Double-Tap.
It was a deep hollow point. deep, deep hollow point. |

First time I fired .357mag pretty much the same thing... except the man told me it was a .38spc so it went pow pow BOOOOM! wtf?
Very cool stuff indeed. I've never fired a .44mag but I've popped off a few rounds of .500S&W woowee thats like your own personal tank in the palm of your hands.

Yeah, revolvers are fun too
My dad's duty weapon was a 357 until just before he retired, so that's what I grew up shooting. He didn't believe in autos - too much to go wrong. He's definitely a keep it simple kind of guy.
Anyway, I shot his revolvers mostly and always wanted to start shooting autos. My first two guns were autos, and then I got the bug for a revolver again. Went looking for a 357 - really versatile gun, wide range of ammunition. But something went wrong and I ended up getting a Taurus 44. That is a lot of gun. Just wish ammo wasn't so expensive. |

I once heard someone describe shooting a semi auto pistol as Rock and Roll and shooting a revolver as a Waltz.
