Beretta 92 Question - Mag Release

I have a Beretta 92F and would like to replace the magazine release button with one that is longer. I've tried to google and find one, but no luck. Does anyone know if there's an aftermarket drop-in replacement out there? I plan on competing with the gun in production ISPC and dropping the mag is a little cumbersome with the factory release.

Yessir there sure is!

http://www.olhasso.com/beretta/parts.htm

Looks like he's only got the "Elite II" style button in stock right now. It looks just like the factory, but sticks out further. The one that is out of stock is the "Factory knurled blah blah" It's got a larger knurled face than the std. round button. It looks like the one seen here:

Another viable option would be to head over to the beretta forums and post up a "WTB(want to buy)ext. mag release" thread in the classified section.

EDIT: I found another source. Ebay didn't turn any up this time but they can be found on there from time to time:

If you get flak for having the ext. release in production, it IS legal. I was told (incorrectly) that it was not allowed, but it is in fact. I can find the documents if you want probably. As long as it's got parts from a gun that is OK in production you'll be okay. In this case, the EII extended release is okay, and so is the factory knurled one since the 92 Stock had it from the factory. Either way, you're good to go and you can tell those nay-sayers to shove it.

Thanks! I've got Pachmayer grips (rubberized) on mine to widen the grip for a better fit with my hands. I love the grips. But they make the mag release less accessible and my natural tendency is to rotate the gun up to get the thumb better access to the release...which I'm certain would break the 180 rule. For now I can press it with the left hand (I'm right handed) but it will slow me down a bit. When I shot the XDSC, I was able to ready a mag with the left hand while releasing the one in the gun with the right hand.

If you're using pachmayer grips you MAY need to modify them to make the factory extended-knurled (pictured above on my 92G) fit correctly since it does hang over the grip everl-so-slightly. With it I am able to drop mags w/ my strong-hand without changing my firing grip at all. It sped my reloads up quite a bit and it all moves in one super fast motion now and the new mag seats in the gun before the other one even hits the ground.

Thanks. I contacted Dave and he had a used mag release with some wear. I just bought that off him and he should be shipping it tonight. I'll check the fit & function when it arrives.

Excellent. Dave is a stand-up guy (and forum member) who is great to do business with. Don't forget to share pics of your beretta when it arrives!

I don't know your familiarity with stripping the 92/96 series, but check this out if you have not already seen it:

Will do. It's an older gun...my wife bought it for me as an engagement gift Yep, I knew I made the right decision there.

I've got that video link saved & used it many times. The accent kills me. I still laugh at the guy with his sear reassembly comments. It is a little tricky getting the spring installed correctly.

His first words could be this year's biggest understatement: "Installing sear is not easy...."

Wow, that was fast. You were right about Dave. It was in better shape than he indicated and he shipped it very fast. I already received the mag release & installed it. Works great! I'll post a couple of pics shortly. No mods to the grips were required.
