For a face to face deal, we'd have to do that in a gun shop who will do the transfer right?

It depends on your state laws. Here in AZ, a face-to-face private sale requires no paperwork or FFL go-between as long as both parties are residents of the state, and the seller has no reason to believe the buyer isn't legally allowed to own the firearm. That being said, I type up a little "CYA" sheet that basically says what was sold (gun make, model), the serial number, who sold it and who bought it, and we both sign and date it and each keep a copy. It could be different in PA, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do the transfer in a store. You'd only be out the transfer fee, usually around $25-$30.
