What is this?!!

Got this gun today and I don't know what it is!!!(I took pics...I'll post them below).

What I (think) I know:
-It's a revolver
-Double action (?)
-22 caliber (?)

I didn't know that the barrels of revolvers could be screwed off! You can unscrew the barrel from this revolver with your hand (as shown in pic).

It is stamped on the top "-I.J. Target Sealed 8-" "I.J.A. & C. WKS." "-Fitchburg, Mass. U.S.A.-"

It has a wooden grip (pictured).

Does anyone know anything about this gun? I've tried to take the best pics I can Is it worth anything or just a junker?

I'm clueless on guns and especially revolvers...I tried googling some of the info stamped on the top but all the stuff I found just confused me more so I figured I'd ask around on here with all you gun geniuses Thanks in advance for any ideas and/or info!

Okay well..I was going to put the pics in the post but they came out HUGE so those are the links to more reasonable sizes of the pics (posted on my website that is down for construction...these pages are the only ones with anything on them atm)

It's an Iver Johnson 8 shot 22 revolver. A lot of them were sold through the Sears Roebucks catalogs in the early and middle part of the 20th century. It is a double action 22 rimfire capable of all the 22 shells except magnums. My dad's likes Winchester ammo. Fun gun to shoot, and a decent tree rat enforcement device should you be so inclined to use it as such.

here is a quick wiki ref. for pistol valuation purposes http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_th...d_Eight_Pistol

I'll let you explore from there. The company has in interesting if non descript history.

I've seen a lot of iver johnsons locally, but all of them are in junk and parts drawers. Does anyone still have a functional and safe-to-fire iver johnson pistol?

I'd take a guess that the barrel isn't supposed to come off like that. Most of the older companies, including S&W and Colt, used threaded barrels but you couldn't just unscrew them. They were pinned into the frame.

Interesting piece.

Yep...Iver Johnson 22 revolver.

Nice little pistols. My cousin has one with 22lr and 22mag interchangeable cylinders. I have shot it several times and they're alot of fun. Fairly accurate and great for campsite plinking or a tackle box gun.

Clean it up and have it checked out and enjoy it.

Yea the whole barrel thing freaked me out! I didn't even know anybody made revolvers that could do that.

I'm def gonna have to check that out Luv cuz i can not figure out how to downsize the pics that come off of my camera and it is a PAIN in the arse. Ebay makes it easy on me and resizes them automatically but Gunbroker looks horrible when I try to do auctions with my supersized photos.
