Trom what I understand the supply of SKS's is starting to dry up. Thus the prices will be rising. With the mods you need to snatch it up. They are a great gun.

First, let me say congratulations to you AZXD, even tho you don't have it yet.

Second, the thread was interesting to say the least, but I have a question for anyone. Since I live in the Socialist State of Kalifornia, would I be correct in assuming (yeah, I know) if I bought my Yugo SKS from a gun store, everything would already be compliant since this state is so anal about gun purchases.

I'm hoping the correct answer is yes, since I bought it from Turners about 3yrs. ago. The only thing I have put on it is a scope (from them) and a bipod. I had to remove the bayonet to attach the bipod. Of course, the grenade launcher was removed before the store even sold it. I imagined that occurred before it even entered the state.

Get some 20 round mags for it the 50 rounders will look rediculous and probably not function very well anyway. My model M with the 16" barrel was not reliable with the supplied Chineese 30 rounder but has been flawless with the Hungarian 20 rounders.

Does your SKS still have the fixed 10 rd. box magazine on it? Does it have the original wood stock? If it has both of these, you're probably just fine. Even if it has an aftermarket stock, I'd think you're ok. In my understanding, the big problem is using high cap. mags in SKS's. If you're not doing that, you should be just fine.

If anyone else has a better understanding of the rules down in sunny CA, chime in. I'm from ID, so I guess I have to say, "Don't quote me on that."

Cheers,

joe

Personally I'm not ok with "probably just fine" when it comes to the feds.

All it takes is an ATF agent or cop to be having a really bad day and your "harmless" new stock lands you in the slammer with your neighbors on the local news talking about how they never expected you to have an arsenal.

I think its a silly rule, however I'm going to follow it until it gets changed.

Retired,

I'm not sure. One would assume since it was sold in cali that they changed enough parts. However you know what they say about assuming! I'd be interested to find out though.

The only thing removed to CA compliant is the grenade launcher. They now sell them with a muzzle brake in its place that looks just like the original GL.
