Question Question......

Why is it that when folks start ragging on AKs, they ALWAYS(2nd after accuracy) say that mag changes are too slow?? That the 'paddle' release and 'rock to lock' set up suck?? Meanwhile the M14, CETME, HK series (both MP and G), Mini 14/30s, and FAL/STGs all use a paddle release and/or the rock it in method-but no one 'whines' about that....just curious about that.....

I admit I'm not a big fan of the AK family of weapons for a couple of reasons but somewhat slower magazine changes isn't an issue as far as I am concerned.

Same goes for a speed or tactical reload with a pistol in a defensive situation. I have never seen a stopwatch used in a gun fight.

There were a couple video clips posted around here somewhere of a practiced user showing techniques for quick AK mag changes. I remember it being impressive enough that I don't consider the AK's mag design a handicap anymore--it just takes a little more practice and knowledge of your equipment to get fluid at it.

People rag on AK's for the same reason Glockies rag on....well, everybody else. In mil rifles as in every other area of the gun world, there are groups who think what they've got, the ______________ (insert brand x) is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and everybody's else's bang-bang of choice is inferior.

Eh....*shrugs*.....I like AR's and AK's, but AK's are cheaper so it's going to come home first. Plus, I've got this whole Russian gun fixation thing going on right now....

I'm an AR fan over the AK, but I still love AK's. Something to be said about a weapon that will fire no matter what kind of hell you put it through.

Glad yall like AKs........but thats not my question. Why is it acceptible for 'other' rifles to have pretty much the same mag change process, but not AKs?? Wheres the logic in that??

The AK is an excellent military weapon but compared to an AR/M-16 based system it is slower to reload. If you are interested in using a rifle system in an enviroment where time is ultra important then the AR/M-16 system is better. The same is true about the other rifles you mentioned. It doesn't make them better or worse, just slower to reload..........

simple answer...bias. If you like AKs, you'll tend to be sensitive to biased opinions against them.

Why care? Let the general consensus gain momentum and maybe the prices will drop. I would love to own an AK. Hopefully I'll buy one before our constitutional rights are dissolved. In the meantime, I value opinions of folks that actually own & shoot their guns. Not some mindless numbnuts that regurgitates rhetoric that he/she read on a gun board.

the answer is ergonmics. on the AR everything can be done EASILY with out ever removing the fireing hand from the grip.
