I looked at one, but the prices on those around here are really high and not everyone has them in stock. Throw in the fact that only the magazine an the buttstock are AR compatible and theres not alot of aftermarket stuff for it now - its a hard sell.

I can get a very nice Bushmaster, DPMS, Stag, High Standard or Rock River basic M4 for at or under 950 bucks...the 1300-1400 dollar SIG 556 does not seem all that appealing. The cost difference buys alot of ammo, optics and other goodies.

They're suposedly very good shooters, but I don't know anyone that has one or has shot one. I have shot the Bushmaster and Stag M4s alot and those are the ones I am leaning towards at the moment.

Yes, very good points. Cheapest ive seen is $1200. I think my entire AR build, all tricked out cost me about that, Aimpoint and all.

Well aside from the fact that the 556 is piston operated, the assertion that they are just like the others just more expensive is pretty close.

You most likely will find that more comparable weapons like the HK416, XCR and POF's that are on average more expensive but more typically in line with the standard AR platform for accessories.

I've heard nothing but happy things about the 556.. with the sole exception of the price point being a bit too hide.

I'd say if you're itching for one, you won't be displease

There are two local dealers that will sell me a nice Stag M-4 for around 850 brand new. Its hard to look at others when this deal is out there. Especially spending 1200-1300 for the 556 SIG.

I could have the Stag completely decked out for 1200 bucks...or the bare-ass 556.

Let me know which Houston dealers are willing to let go of a Stag at the price you mentioned. I'm looking to purchase a Stag Model 2 or Model 3.

I have seen many comment on other Forums that the Sig 556 is a cheap immitation of the original Sig military rifle it is based off of. U might wanna do some searches at THR, The Firing Line and Glocktalk. But, it seems a lot of people aren't happy with the fit and finish of the gun when they look at it.

Maybe I'll win the PS90 my dealer is raffling off this September. Id probably sell though due to ammo prices.

Man, if I had $1200 to spend on a carbine I'd be buying a DSA FAL or a Springfield SOCOM - I really want a heavy hitter in the lineup!

The SIG 556 is a great gun, but parts availability and design makes me look at any standard AR carbine for 1/2 the cost. Like I said, I really want a 308 CQB gun in the arsenal.

If U look online, U can hit a price of $16-$17 per box of usually. That's not bad for rifle ammo - high quality stuff - 50 rounds...
