Aside from timing and all the things mentioned.
Careful checking of the forcing cone is very important. Carbon and crud is rarely completely cleaned in this area and it could cover up a crack.

yeah, tightness is ussaly reguarded as cylinder roll. open up the gun and when you click it shut, give it the normal twist to lock it, then using the thumb and fore finger see if it has any travel.

check for any surface rust, ect. if it has rust on the outside there is most likely rust inside. in that case put some oil\lube in the mechinism. dry fire it a few times to get it circulating, and rust will drip out on the trigger line, keep wiping it up and eventually your gun will be lubricated better and with less rust.

im a complete gun newbie, im just sharing some expriences with you guys. when i pulled my fathers old gun, thats what the gun smith did.
