Bobbed S&W 637 (Pics)

Well, my 637 hammer came in, so I immediately installed it and then bobbed it. I think it came out pretty well! Here are a few photos. It has the Wolf reduced power spring pack, so the pull is a long, smooth 7 or 8 lbs. It comes out of a tight jeans pocket a lot faster now!

I can also catch the hammer on the way back and shoot it single-action if I want at the range. It would be very difficult to decock without firing though.

I'm no pro, but I think that looks like a fine job! Congrats on taking the initiative. I used to not be so much a wheel gun guy, but you guys are showing me the error of my ways.

Play safely.

How did you end up doing the bob job. I bought one this past weekend and am having a really hard time with the spur. How hard was it to do? How about the spring pack?

Looks good, kind of like an unshrouded 642

The spring pack was nothing more than unscrewing the 3 sideplate screws, tapping the frame until the sideplate falls off and removing the mainspring with some needlenose pliers. Remove the rebound slide, switch out the trigger return spring and mainspring, then reassemble.

I bobbed the hammer with a dremel and grinding wheel. I followed it up with a sanding drum, then a cloth polishing drum with some metal polish on it. I didn't want to bob it flush with the frame, for fear of making it so thin it may not have enough momentum to ignite the primer or maybe even snap off. Obviously this was all done with the hammer removed from the gun! In fact, I ordered a replacement hammer for $30 and then bobbed it, so that I still have the factory original hammer if I ever want to go back to the spur.

I'm completely happy with the results.

Thanks for the info. You're making me rethink trading for a concealed hammer. Where did you end up buying the parts from?

That's even more awesomer. I thought you had bought drop in parts. You make me wonder, but I think I'll hold off on a dremel just a wee longer. I'll look at what you guys do a bit more first.

Do you have a rear view of the hammer? It doesn't look like it's flush, it looks like it's below the frame.

It's not flush with the frame as it comes from the factory. The spur sticks out from the frame, but the "backstrap" of the hammer isn't flush with the frame at all. I didn't cut anything below the spur of the hammer.

Here's a closeup - maybe that will make more sense.
