I'm going to be putting in for an Elk hunt this year and really would like to use my .303B because I shoot better with it than any other gun I own period. Has anyone here ever used a .303Brit on Elk?

It loses about 300 fps over the .30-06 with a 180 grainer, but that's probably not going to matter. With a good bullet, you should be fine. Shot placement is crucial, so if you shoot it well, go for it. Good luck!

The 303 has been used all over the world to kill game..and wound it. Get close enough(under 150 yards) with the right bullet(handloading is a plus) and you'll be fine.

While I don't, I know of one person that uses and old Enfield to hunt, all the way through Elk. Use the best bullet you can get, and practice with that load before you go, and at the ranges that you expect to shoot. You should not need to go further than 300 in my book.

I took my moose with my dad;s .303 a number of years ago. So it should be fine, of course like anything shot placement plays a big part.

Thank you all for the replies! I plan to use 180gr Rem Cor-Loks. This is the second most accurate load in my gun. The other being Hornady's 150 gr load and I think that is too light a bullet. I will keep my shots 200 yards or closer no exceptions and I'll only take broadside or quartering away shots. Even if it means passing up opportunities and also I will be using a range finder in case there is any doubt as to the range. Some of you might recognize my gun as I've posted the pics here before but here it is with a 6" target. All shots were at 200 yards from field shooting positions not a bench.

By the way I have my .303 sighted 2" inches high at 100 yards and it only drops about 3" at 200 yards with the 180gr Core-Lokts. Oh yes and my older brother has used this gun/ammo combination to kill some really big black bears.
