KIMBER Model differences...
Do we have any kimber gurus here that can help me decide which one i should get... i know i want a 5 inch .45... is there any differences between all the models, like clipse, custom, match, and so on? Am i right by saying the only differences are cosmetic like the stipple, rails, sights, looks, and finish?
If you have a kimber, which one do YOU have? |

Some differences are cosmetic, while some are functional, ie: stainless steel vs. stainless steel match grade barrel, regular vs match grade barrel bushings, dehorning, carry melt treatments, custom fitting of the slide to the frame, etc.
The base model kimbers are fine guns, but you get what you pay for in the higher end models. They are usually hand fitted in the custom shop with higher quality parts that hold closer tolerences.

ok, for a ALL range gun, im thinking either custom, gold match, or eclipse... would i be losing out and gaining a lot of things by switching between any of these platforms? i like the way the eclipse looks, but i dont want to lose any features...

Well, any 1911 purchase is pretty subjective, especially with the higher-end Kimbers. It really depends on what you're looking for. For a range gun, the Gold Match II is a fantastic piece. Go to http://www.kimberamerica.com and check out each model you are interested in - they have all of the specs for each one listed right there on the website. Also keep in mind that if you find a model you really like but it's missing one or two features, the custom shop can usually add those features for you before the gun ships out if you order directly from them. Kimber is usually more than willing to tailor their production models to your preferences. You'll pay a little extra by ordering from them, but in the end, you'll have what you want and be VERY happy with the purchase. Kimber's customer service is excellent.
