Which should be myy next handgun, specificly for Concealed Carry
Hey all. I got a XD 45acp Service. And once I file and get my permit to carry concealed im gonna carry it i guess. But after I purchase a ar15 this summer im gonna get another handgun.
but im not sure if I want a SA XD 40 Sub-Compact or a .38 Snub Nose revolver, im not a revolver fan, but I think a 38 snub nose that i cant put in my front pocket would be an awesome concealed carry weapon. im specificlly looking at the Switch and Wesson Model 442. i really like the design of the revolvers with the internal hammer. that would make it really nice for front pocket carry im sure. Well, i want both weapons, probably well get both, but IDK which one to get first. They are both pretty much the same length. The XD is twice as heavy. I dont think id cary a XD in my front pocket, im afraid of a AD, but i think a revolver with its super long trigger would make a AD extremely hard to happen. any ways... any tips or any thing? |

Really no easy answer to your question.
You'll have to shop around. Maybe rent some at a local shooting range and see what you like. You will also learn in your CCW class that the best defense is never to have to use your CCW pistol in the first place. Defense is Defense, but after one incident where you have to use your pistol of choice, you life will change in many different ways. Just a little advice cause your post seems a little over enthusiastic. (no flame intended

I tell me very liberal gf, who is a having a sh*t fit over this, that i dont want to carry, it I dont want to use it, but i have to I will use it. I personally dont want to carry, I dont erally think any one does, but i will protect myself and my family. She says she can grasp the concept but she just cant understand putting it into effect. which doesnt really make sence. Her big issue with it, is she is terrified of guns.... *dumb* (any tips there as well?) I guess the other question would be how many people carry a revovler in their front pocket and like to carry it that way and feel safe about no accidently discharges o_0 thanks. |

Get whatever youll carry all the time. A lightweight concealable .38 in your pocket trumps the service model .45 left on your bedside table every time.

My wife had grown up around guns but had never fired or really even handled one. I kept bugging her to go to the range with me, but she kept saying that she was nervous. Once I finally got her to go, I rented her a .22 and bought a brick of ammo. I spent some time with her showing her how the gun worked and explained the three rules of gun safety about 1,000 times. I started out with only 2-3 rounds in the mag at a time until she was confortable, then I let her have at it. On her first trip she went through 300 rounds of .22 and a few mags full of 9mm! She loved it, and I've since bought a .22 pistol for her to use at the range (although she doesn't mind my 9mm XDs either |

As for the girlfriend. We WERE gonna go to the range one day and shoot. A couple days before that, i was showing her how my XD 45 works. all the gun safety rules. bla bla. i had plannedo n starting her on a .22LR rifle. Well, she couldnt hold the rifle up. her being too weak (way to girly) plus i guess short arms, but i dont think they are thattt short.... but any ways i got her to hold the 45 and she started SHAKING. shes terrified of them,,, now,, that you have a better idea, what kind of advice can ya give me there? |

Sign her up for a "Begining Handgun" class. That will be taught by a certified intructor which might make her feel more secure than just heading to the range with you. Explain to her that they will cover all safety issues, etc before she ever touches a gun, and that she will be completely supervised when she eventually starts shooting.
But I am willing to bet that once she shoots a bit and gets over the initial fear, she will enjoy it. |

But I think her going to a handgun safety class would be a waste of time/money. I just took mine so i can apply for my CCW permit, and I didn't learn any thing I didn't already know. I could teach her everything the instructor of that class did. well ill take that back, the only thing i learned was what a wad cutter was. I had heard of them before, but never took the time to ask what they were. |
