Steyr M9 9mm (price check...opinions)

Wow, just when you least expect it!

A salesman that frequents our office and I got to talking about guns and it turns out he has a Stetr M9 9mm that he wants to sell. This was months ago and I shrugged it off at the time.

He brought it by today to show me and it is in VERY good shape but he only had the one 13rd magazine for it and no case. The finish was really good and he said he only ran a box or two of 9mm ball through it. He wants 300 dollars for the pistol.

I never would have picked one of these up, but I have ot admit, its a very nice pistol. Fits the hand real well and I am guessing since its a Steyr, its a fairly well made piece.

Does anybody own one of these M9s? Is this a good price for a slightly used M9? I know I have seen rattyl Glock 17s going for 350-400 and this is comparable to a Glock in size and quality.

How easy is it to get holsters and mags? I am guessing they're available.

I was not really in the market for this, but it does appeal to me and I hate to pass up a well priced quality pistol. Any opinons, criticism or advice on the strangely appealing Steyr M9 would be appreciated. it might be following me home!

Thanks!

I was at a large gun show in Pittsburgh last weekend and several dealers had some used M9's. Their prices were ranging from 350 - 400. So 300 sounds like a great deal if it's in good shape.

I was actually surprised at how many I saw at the show. I didn't know that pistol was that popular in the US. I'd be interested in hearing what you think about it if you do buy it.

The Steyrs never did catch on the way that was expected and they faded from the scene rapidly. CDNN was selling them off not too long ago for $269 but I don't know if they still have any.

Holsters for the Steyr are almost non-existant but a holster for an H&K USP Compact should be a good fit.

I doubt that it would be easy to find mags, parts or service for this gun but there may be some Steyr owners out there that can add their experience on that subject.

Glocks, XD's and other popular guns create a market for logistic support that you just don't get when you buy a less popular gun.

Yeah, I know the M9 is not popular here. Neither is the Hi-Power, but its also a great piece.

I checked with DeSantis and for 62 bucks, a Speed Scabbard and Thumbbreak holster are very much available.

If mags are reasonable and easy to find...I just might pick this pistol up. It sure seemed like a nice pistol for 300 bucks.

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a good priced M9 for a while. I missed out on a chance to buy the old frame style for $250 and have kicked myself evey day since. I think $300 is a fair price, you'll be able to get that back out of it, if you don't like it.

I've never looked around for mags though, what's price look like on those?

I loved my M9. hands down the best pistol I ever owned. I really regret getting rid of it, its just the right size for ccw and range shooting. but I just couldnt find mags or holsters. and i wanted something bigger than a 9mm, I like my 229 alot, but the m-9 was a great pistol. I know where to find mags and holsters for it now... i wish i waited a month or two. but just keep searching on the internet they are out there. get the gun, you will like it alot

I like them and have not heard bad about them yet. They've got a damn low bore axis.

I'd pass on his M9 and buy one from CDNN.

http://www.cdnninvestments.com/dowournewcat.html

If you have dial up forget it because the catalog is over 150pages.

CDNN is selling the new MxxA1 models for $350.

I had an M9 and still have my M40. The newer A1 series has a rail and the frame is different, so I'd say get the newer model.

Steyrs are great pistols and you can learn more at www.steyrclub.com
