Taurus PT-1911 opinions

Anyone have feedback for this pistol? My buddy is considering purchasing one, and there's not a lot of data out there for this one. Thanks!

The majority of reports I've heard have been good. One forum I frequent had a few problems with the firing pin hole being too large, causing bulged primers on fired rounds. Thats the only bad thing I've heard so far and was probably an isolated thing,

It appears you get a lot of bang for your buck in a standard out of the box 1911.

I've heard great things about them. The only thing I heard that I don't like is that their not mil-spec. That means that most 1911 parts that you would buy to upgrade you 1911 might not fit. (pin holes being a differant size) Thats all I heard. I have not tried to upgrade one. Thats all I've heard from a firearms instructor who also sells them at his shop.

Pt-1911

I'm no 1911 expert, but I have shot several Kimbers, which were great guns, but hard on the wallet. I bought a PT1911 over Christmas and have put 250 rds. thru it with no problems whatsoever. The only thing is the sights are a little different, and take some getting used to.
Here's the target from the first 150.

This is my second 1911, my first was a Norinco, when I was younger and I didn't like it, but now I wish I still had it. For the money, the Taurus can't be beat. I paid 499+tax out the door. I'd buy another anytime.

Yep guys I actually have 2 of them it was one of those deals I couldn't pass up,1 I havent shot much maybe 350 rds but the other one has close to 3000 rds so far and hardly a hiccup , yes the finish is thin they call it Blued but it's more like parkerized, I own Kimbers and Colts and a Ed Brown or 2 and for a strait up shooter the Taurus is great, I am just about to replace springs and do a trigger polish and change out the Ambi safety to a single side only on the 3000 rounder gun as its a true keeper, I'm still not sure about the other one yet I have offered it to a couple of Forum members and I'm giving them a couple of weeks to decide. All in all the Taurus will be a lifetime shooter for me it resides in my nightstand with a XD or 2 in the dresser for HD work as I'm now carrying my Springfield Micro Compact and a Taurus 357 snubby.

Thumbs up

Also meant to add guys that I give this pistol a big thumbs up, however before you buy one look it over good and if possible have it checked with a boresight as I have read a couple of reports about the front sight being off center, while thats not a big deal it a pain to go to the range with a new piece and not be able to hit the target, makes you fall outa love with it quick. I will also add my one with 3000 rds thru it had a poorly finished feed ramp it never failed to feed but I polished it anyway where my other one had a feed ramp that was like a mirror. I bought both of these pistols from the same dealer 2 days apart so go figure.

My son wanted his first handgun to be a 1911, and since I have had such good luck with the Taurus firearms I own, I decided to get the PT-1911 for him. For the price, this is one great gun. My son has now put about 600 founds of FMJ through many a ragged hole in the center of the target. It has yet to malfunction in any way and he is extremely happy with the gun. I did make one change before giving it to him. I replaced the plastic grip panels with a nice pair of checkered Cobolo grip panels I had laying around. I don't personally care for the Heine Straight 8 sights, but I really like the gun otherwise. He plans to use it to qualify for his CHL this year and as his primary carry weapon. We are looking for just the right IWB holster for him now.
