Just a little suggestion, shop around local dealers first, try to keep your money local.

For a $350 budget, I couldn't agree more! But the Maverick 88 is a good option for those with an even smaller budget.

My 870 Express 18.5", synthetic stocked 12ga:

And my Maverick 88 Security 20", 7 shot tube 12ga:

Thats real constructive and helpful for the guy that opened this post asking for suggestions. You can buy very functional shotguns that are extremely reliable and still stay within his price range. He didnt ask what POS he should buy, he listend name brand guns. Maybe you could direct your efforts in a more helpful direction.

That's a silly comparison, but then again... Even a cheap helmet is better than no helmet at all, right?

I was addresing this statment when I wrote that.

I have a Mossberg 500 that is about 15-years-old. It's been used and abused in the field, and dropped in just about anything you can drop a shotgun into (including a lake... twice). It looks nasty as hell, but still functions flawlessly. It's not a "military ceritifed" 590, it's just a Walmart special 500. But I would trust my life to it any day.

So If you agree with that then more power to you good luck.

iirc the remington pumps have one feature that I do not like. The shell lifter(elevator) stays down until the action is all the way back, meaning that you have to push it up with the shell when loading it. I remember when I was younger getting my thumb stuck in there and it hurting like heck!

My plain ol 500 Persuader{left}.

It has been through a few training courses, several types of competition, lots of hunting in crappy weather and S..t loads of ROUGH practice and never a single malf or broken part{aprox 5500 rounds currently}. I have had to refinnish the metal and the wood on mine since I've been using and abusing it for years. Of course I should probably sell them both to buy a superior Mil Spec 590 since mine are cheap junk. I've had the "Mil-Spec 590 before and there was not enough difference for a gnat to sleep on{not the the kind that make any real differance. Oh I forgot I did have one of the slide bars break and a safety fall off{on the 590} doing the same things I'm doing with my current gun. I won't even go into the 870 thing cause they are just as good as my Mossbergs{NOT BETTER, as good}. I don't believe the 500 is superior to the 590 nor the other way around.

Check the specs.

Kinda like the cleaning kit door on an AK. Great place for a cleaning kit. Really bad place for a thumb.

Or even worse, the bolt of a Garand.
