Shooting Tips?

I just bought an XD9 serivice two weeks ago. I love the gun. I am new to the handgun game and i really don't know anything about proper shooting technique with handguns. I was curious if anyone could recommend some websites with shooting tips or give your own tips to help a new pistolero to tighten his groups. I would really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch!

Grip Grip Grip Grip... Once you have those four steps completed, move on to number five.. Which is Practice...

I say, shoot as much LIVE ammo as possible.. Make sure you use ALL your range time to your advange, you are either there to practice or there to waste time, you can't have both.

I personally don't like Dry Fire techniques. I believe it gets you too "friendly" with the trigger and makes Neglectful discharges more likely.

Shooting is a hobby, and like any other hobby it's going to involve LOTS of time and PLENTY of money. BUT, just like any other hobby, the more you put into it, the more enjoyment you'll get out of it. Welcome aboard!

Trigger control. When have a good grip make sure you are pressing the trigger all the way through without seeing movement in the sights. Lots of dry fire will help with this.

Dad used to say "hell, son...the best shooting teacher is a case of ammo."

Dad is a retired USMC Gunny who served as an MP for most of his time in the Corps. He could point-shoot with the M1911A1 better than anybody I had ever seen. It was like a natural extension of his hand.

Dad may have been wrong about a few things in life, but this was not one of them.

I have to disagree, I shot well over 100k rounds on my own before I really learned how to shoot. Nothing better than good instruction to save you lots time and money.

www.brianenos.com has a great book and lots of good videos www.pistolgear.com has some also.

+1 on Loves2Shoot - why waste your time and money? Learn to do it right from the start so you minimize ineffective or bad habits!

Well worth the money to get competent instruction.

If you start out shooting slow fire and work on the fundamentals the speed will come with time. If you never build the fundamental skill you won't be able to improve your fast shooting because you won't be able to detect what you are doing wrong.

Due to the short sight radius of a pistol the alignment of the front and rear sight is critical. You should focus your eyes on the front sight with the target blurry. If you have trouble resisting the temptation to focus on the target, cover the target with a piece of white butcher paper. Focusing on sight alignment will do two things. First it corrects sight error and second you will see any adverse inputs as you are squeezing the trigger.
