ghost rings for my mossberg 590

I really want to buy a mossberg 590 w/ heatshield but mossberg cust. service told me that I cant have ghost ring sights AND the heatshield...one or the other. Maybe this is because they dont make them that way and they dont want me buying aftermarket sights. Does anyone have any experience with this same problem? I was looking at wilson combat ghost ring sights, but they say they are only for rem. 870....what other company makes ghost rings??

I have a Mossberg 500 that came with a heat shield and a bead sight. I wanted the same ghost ring sights that come on the 590 so i ordered them off of the Mossberg website and had a smith install them. I have never had an issue with the heat shield and sights damaging each other. The only people who make the sights are Mossberg. There are some ATI heat shields that have ghost ring sights built into them but i have heard they are pretty crappy.

I have factory ghost rings and a heat shield.

Buy the factory M590 with ghost rings.
I picked up an ATI heat shield
http://www.atigunstocks.com/installa...0-install.html

Take the barrel off. Slide the back of the heat shield over the back of the barrel. Streach the front part of the heat shield over the barrel. It won't matter that you streached it because you'll use the included bolts to squeeze it back together. I had to use a bolt/nut without the washer to get it back together, then use the other bolt with the washer in the other hole. Once the bolt with the washer was holding the tabs in place, I added the washer to the other bolt/nut.

Humm, now that I think of it, I guess you could put it on upside down and then twist it 180 degrees!!!! Damn, that's tons easier.

i called mossberg cust service back up and they told me that i could install mossbergs ghost ring sights on my 590 with the heat shield, the only problem is that the front sight has to be solderd on and you cant remove the heat sheild because it has to slide over the barrell. My question is, and im sorry in advanced because i dont know a whole lot about shotguns, what is a reason why i would have to remove the heatshield?? Would I need to remove it to remove the barrell for cleaning???

IMHO MMC makes the best ghost ring sights bar none! Very rugged and good looking to boot! http://www.mmcsight.com/shotgun.htm

You might have to clean under the barrel. If you get rust there, you'll have to at least loosen the bolts and turn it to gain access to under the heat shield.

You don't need to have the front sight post removed and resoldered. Just follow my instructions and put it on the barrel.

MMC has a clamp on front sight that works very well! You can take it off whenever you need to. It's nice to not have to do any thing more than take it off put the heat shield on and renstall. If one must have a soldered on front sight then Hardwarz suggestion will work just fine.

It's good too once and awhile. You can do it without taking the shroud off but{like I did at first} you may scratch up the barrel.

Misc question: Why do people like ghost ring sights? I never looked through them before.
