remington 870 problem

I purchased a used remington 870 express magnum (PUMP) from the local firing range it was not fired very much by the original owner 'cause the action arms were not even shiney and there was no line on the barrel from slinding the fore end to eject the shell.
Well I went shoot skeet with some friends and after 2 boxes of factory ammo it started acting up, it would fire the first 2 shots no problem but the 3rd shell would not come out of the magazine tube and into the reciever. I could cycle the action over and over but it would not come. The longer of the 2 shell catch levers would not let it go so that the shorter one could give and let it fall into the receiver I would have to pull the fore end back and depress the lever by hand then the shell would slide to the shorter lever then if I cycled the action the shell would fall into the reciever and into the chamber, if I kept the fore end forward I could not depress the catch lever by hand I had to slide it back. It only did it 3 times and not when I loaded 3 shells and cycled them by hand (which I did about 10 times) only while I was firing the gun, and not back to back either then I stopped because I was afraid that I might damage the gun. I plan on going to the firing range that I bought it from and having their gunsmith look at it but considering the wisdom and experience of the people on this forum I was wondering if some one here could give me a little insight on this problem

Any gunsmith should be able to fix the problem, but Remington told me it has to be fixed by a Remington dealer/smith.

I had the same issue or close to what you describe. If it is the same, it will get worse the more you shoot it. I took mine to shoot some clays and get use to it right after buying it. By the end of the day I could not get to cycle any shell without "help." Basically a single shot with a built in shell holder. Remington knows about the problem and it was a five minute fix, oh and they shouldn't charge you for it. It is either a Monday or Friday gun and their QC guy is on break. The slide rails are not engaging the release for the next shell. I think all they did is slightly tweak the rails in closer. I have not had this issue return since it was adjusted.

Hope it helps.

did you have to send it to remington for them to fix it or did the smith contact remington and they told him what to fix
