20 gage

Hey guys,

I am looking into getting my fiance a 20 gage (thats all she can handle) for a gift. I am looking to spend a couple hundred. She doesn't want something "rambo style" as she puts it, ie moss 500 or something. Just one or two shots. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Remington 1100 is a nice shotgun, but probably gonna cost you more than you want to pay. They're beautiful and VERY smooth. What is your fiance's build like, is she petite, tall, etc? I know that my ex gf, who was pretty small, really loved my Winchester 1100. It's a youth model pump action shotgun, so it has a shorter stock and a nice short pull. You can get them with different barrel lengths. These shotguns are discontinued and sometimes hard to find, but you can usually find them around the $300 range and in very good shape. They're really smooth shooting, low recoiling shotguns. If she's petite and you manage to find one for her, I'd definately recommend it, my ex wanted mine, lol.

I like the youth model 870's as well, but I'm telling you, they don't even compare to the Winchester 1100 youth model, they're just not as nice of a shotgun. Either way, if you can't find the winchester 1100, the 870 will be a pretty good substitute.

I would be willing to spend about 300. I have a moss 500 12 gage and love it. I know they make the 20 gage also but I find it weird that they charge about the same price. She is pretty petite so shooting my 12 kicks her butt. I buddy of mine has an 870 and likes it alright but it is much heavier then my moss 500. I will most likely end up going with a youth model of the remington 870 20 gage, that way I know she will be ok with it, and it isnt "rambo style" as she would put it. Thanx for your help guys.

Here are my recommendations.

Winchester 1300 Youth 20 gauge. @ $300. Solid pump shotgun, probably one of the best on the market in this range. My wife and son use it for dove hunting. It has a shorter stock and foregrip.

Traditions ALS 20 gauge - auto. I bought one at a Quail Unlimited auction. Pleasantly surprised how nice it really is. Very light, low recoil, solid action, good shooter. It has become my go to gun for the field.

I would not recommend the Rem 870. I have one, and so does most of America. I have seen them used as boat paddles and still used hunting all day. Mine has not been the norm and has been the most unreliable shotgun I have ever owned. I have had more trouble out of it than all my other guns combined. It has actually been to a Remy gunsmith twice for stupid issues. I use it for turkey hunting now, and I can say it is probably the best looking, most expensive, single shot money can buy. Rem did "fix" it under warranty, and it is supposed to 100% now, but I don't rely on it. In fact, I don't even look at Remington products now because of the issues I have run into with this gun.

Hope it helps,
