The 597s we bought for our youth silhouette team have been nothing but h*ll. Very inconsistent feeding. I wouldn't count on the Remington name.

I like my 597 a lot. Eagle has a 30-round mag for it now. So, I've got to get one of those.

But, I've not tried the Savage.

Just wondering what type of 597 did you purchase your team?

I can find out; I didn't know there was more than one 597. I think they bought eight of the cheaper ones. I've read a lot about feeding problems beyond the problems I've seen.

For $20 more I'd get a 10/22. Upgrades galore available for them, and their reliability and performance seems to be quite a bit better than any 597 I've seen.

YMMV

ETA: Just noticed the irony. suggesting the 10/22 @ 10:22 AM

The 10/22 is very popular for a reason. It would be a good choice. The 597 works well, if you keep it clean and lubed.

The Mark II is a bolt-action, right? If so, then I'd go with the Mark II over the 597. The only semi-auto .22 I've ever liked was the 10/22. Ruger makes an excellent product. If you can fork out the extra money, I'd go with the Ruger.

I love my Savage Mark II-F .22lr bolt-action w/ Accu-Trigger. Accuracy out-of-the-box is one of the things Savage is known for. and this thing is way more accurate than I am.

I can't say much about the other gun you mentioned, but I can speak from experience on the Savage: They're awesome. Mine has been 100% reliable thus far.

Gotta go with SAVAGE. Best for accuracy. They are right about all the extras for the 10/22. I like my 10/22 but my Savage is a little tack driver.
