Enfield Project - Done (phase I) - lots of pics
If you want to see what I started with, you can find the pics in this thread:
My Enfield Project (pics) It was quite ugly at the start. Well, I may have a couple more coats of boiled linseed oil to do; but it's reached the point where it's not really absorbing anymore. I'll let it dry out for a bit and test it again. But for the most part, I'm done with getting this old gun back in shape. Cleaned a ton, re-blued, refinished the wood with BLO, and here it is. I only replaced one part...the rear sight was strictly 300/600 peep sight. I replaced it with the milled sight, provided by the_gunman1 (and many, many thanks to him for his help and the rear sight!). I should add that the replacement rear sight has the same factory mark as the original rifle. I added a surplus enfield strap. Other than that, all parts are original. Let me know what you think...it's the first Enfield that I've owned. So the whole project was quite a learning experience. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by jdavionic : 02-24-2007 at 06:31 PM. |

Very nice! You'll have to let us know how it shoots.

First Range Report - sighting it in
Well, I've determine the rifle is more accurate than I am. It took a little longer than I wanted...because my front sight tool broke (therefore it took 2 trips to the range). But I sighted at an indoor range first (near my house). I just wanted to get it on paper before heading to the outdoor range. I sighted it at 25yds using the 200 yd setting on the milled rear sight. According to what I've read, it should be 3/4" higher than my point of aim. When I finished with the windage adjustments, it was just about where it should be. Note, the only way to adjust the elevation without changing the clicks on your rear sight is to change the blade out on the front sight for a different height blade. But it appears whoever did it originally got it set pretty well for me.
I then put this target at the back of the range, somewhere 30-35 yds. This range really sucks with respect to lighting; so the conditions were far from ideal. Still, I know...it was not far out there. But here's what this old beat up, rusted,...now restored rifle did - ![]() |
