Hungarian AK value
I recently aquired a Hungarian SA85M AK47 for a very resonable price. FREE.
This gun has NEVER been shot (99.9% sure), there is not a mark or scuff on the gun or stock. No scratches or anything nowhere. What would a gun like this retail, and what is the take from the AK gurus on the Hungarian? I am not going to sell this, it was from my father. He has had this for quite sometime, along with 2 others. I am just curious on the worth and quality of the Hungarian, expecially since it is in 100% condition. |

Dont know about the SA85M part of it,but a quick look on Gunsbroker showed Hungarian AKs going for around $500-$600.

Thumbhole stock or 'conventional'?? Threaded muzzle?? Whose receiver is it built on FEG or Arsenal/Global Trades?? Which gas system, short (like the AMD65) or standard like every other AK??
Depending on the answers.....anywhere from $450 to $1000.....alot of rifles are SA 85M, just depends on how its configured. Standard SA 85Ms are pretty common....

Thumbhole stock, light colored wood.
No threaded muzzle FEG receiver KBI Incorporated, Harrisburg PA Standard gas system. If I could figure out how to post a pic, I would. |

Personally, I would pay no more than $400 NIB with all paper work. Depends on what the market will support in your area. You could easily get more like $500 and possibly more at auction.
If I were you, I would find and purchase a Hungarian buttstock and pistol grip and convert it to original. If the barrel is standard size, I would rent a threading kit and thread it 14/1 LH. Just by doing this you will increase the pieces price to $600-$800 depending on the buyer. A dealer will still only give you $300- $400

Thats a later model SA 85M, they went to the SA2000M that came in single and double stack.....
As far as quality.......the FEG guns are one of the best 'commercial' guns made. Rivaled only by Norinco and Arsenal in my opinion. With Arsenal, your are paying a premium for the name. I have one, but I converted it to an AMD 65. Second one down from the top. ![]()
