Any Mini-14 owners out there?
I was at the LGS today and the dang Mini-14 caught my eye. I've passed on it up untill now, but now I want one.
What add-ons have you guys put on yours? I'd most likely get a new stock, although not one oh the folding ones, and I was thinking about a flash hider to make it look more like the M1A. Any ideas/PICS out there? Thanks Matt |

Well, there were a couple. It was at a store, not a show (LGS in my head means Local Gun Store...sorry for any confusion)
They had a used one, with the older style front sight, for $399. The new ones were fetching $599, and of course they had the newer style sights on them. I'm sure if I looked around more I could find a better deal, but I will get one soon (those darn democrats are just making me buy guns.... bummer Matt |

I owned a Mini Stainless Ranch once; gave it to a friend, don't hear much from him anymore. Probably the worst example of a rifle I ever owned.

I used to own two. They had the John Masen brake/FH on them. I also narrowed the front sight blade down, and had the trigger done over by Connecticut Precision Chambering. They will do other work as well.
Also, only get factory Ruger mags. There was only one other company out there that made quality mags that would work reliably, but I will be darned if I can remember who that was. Last I knew they were out of business.

used to own a SS Mini 14 Ranch but i sold it due to lack of accuracy once it heated up.
i hear they fixed the accuracy of the new ones though. i would prefer the Mini 30 though for the beefer 7.62x39 cartridge

My dad has a Ruger Ranch Rifle. I have borrowed it a couple of times and was not impressed at all. Sure, its handy and SEEMS like a nice package and a good idea, but the accuracy is awful and the trigger is not good and theres little you can do to improve it. A 4-6" 100yd group is the norm.
Dad is not crazy about it either and uses his Thompson Encore 223 most of the time. I really don't know why he keeps it around. We joke about how horrible it is! I always tell everyone that if you want a low cost 223 rifle, go with a bolt action Savage or Remington or maybe a Contender or NEF Handi-Rifle. Otherwise, save your pennies and buy a quality AR variant. I have no use or want....EVER...for a Mini-14, thank you. - Brickboy240
