Does This Make any Sense
OK, fairly long post/question. I am thinking of buying a Sig Mosquito. Why? Well, I want a 22 plinker, which of course, opens a number of options. My reasoning for the Mosquito is that it's closest to the size and feel of an XD type gun. Seems like a logical way to add practice time at the range, toward shooting better with my XD.
But, part of me thinks, with the difference in trigger pull, difference in recoil, that it may not be that productive, thus my questioning whether this is a good idea, or if I should just buy a Buck Master, etc. By the way, I not really looking for advice on which "gun" to purchase, there's plenty of that advice, I'm looking for opinions on the application of the gun.

well... if you ask me, I don't think any other gun would train me for my XD trigger. I have shot two guns that I had never even held before and I did really really good with them. Much better than I have shot with my XD, which I have over 4,000 rounds through. I'd rather wait til that .22 kit comes out for the XD and buy that, if I wanted cheap practice to help me get more accurate with my XD.
Love my XD for it's reliability, but something about it is keeping ME from being very very accurate with it. I shoot it pretty good, but for some reason I'm able to shoot other guns that I had never held before, much much better right from the start. So I just don't think the trigger of another gun, will help me much when it comes to my XD. |

Just get a Kimber 1911 conversion if you already have a 1911

You should focus on learning proper trigger pull/reset and sight alignment. That way you can shoot anything.
In other words: train yourself to shoot guns, not a certain type of guns. So yes, I would get the Mosquito. Even though it's a DA/SA, if you can learn to shoot a true Double Action pistol, any Single Action pistol is a piece of cake.

I picked up a ruger Mark III 22/45 because it has the same grip angle as the xd and 1911. They are nice solid pistols which will last a lifetime!

The SIGs single action trigger is closer to the XDs trigger than anyother 22 pistol. Too bad you have to get past that double action first shot.

If you are are looking to practice more, then yes, a .22 can help there quite a bit. Even if the pistol is not quite the same as the XD, it still is shooting and can help. The best would be to wait till the conversion comes out.
As an example, I used to shoot High Power matches. There is about 7 months at least here where there are no matches, and it can be downright nasty outside. So, I got a match pellet rifle to keep me sharp, and shoot it in my garage. It is not exactly like my HP rifle, but it did allow me to practice. The next season rolled around and I was better than where I had finished the previous year, and I wasn't starting down a bit like I had done before (from not shooting all winter).
