Sig owners please chime in

Okay guys I need some help on my next purchase. I'm looking at a Sig 226 or 229. Unfortunately none of the local ranges have one for rent. So my question is how much wider is the grip and height than the XD? When I shoot my buddies Glock 27 the grip is too wide for me. Does anybody have a pic with side by side comparison of a Sig and XD.

Thanks

William

my dad has a 229. the last time i was at home i was cleaning both of them and the 229 is just a hair smaller and also the rail has the snag-proof edges so it's quite a bit more rounded off than the xd. also, xd is polymer frame down where as the sig is all metal. the grip on the sig seems a bit wider but still fits my hand pretty well. i hope to shoot his soon and i'll give an update.

You might also want to take a look at the FNP9 and FNP40 series pistols. Characteristics very similar to Sigs and a lot less $$$$$. Yes, I also own a few Sigs.

The sig p226 was the first handgun I shot about 16 years ago. I have continued to shoot them for fun and in competition. It is one of my favorite guns. I don't have any pics to compare the two grips but my whole family (who also all own sigs) and I all feel that the XD grip is somewhat comparable. I think that if the xd grip fits you nice you won't have any problems falling in love with the sig. The sig might be just a bit wider but not a huge difference. Either way, you cannot go wrong with the sig. They make a great gun.

Your price sounds good. I have the 226 Navy and love it. I have not compared the grips to my XD's but I have fairly small hands and the 226 fits like a glove. If I have time tomorrow I may take a pict of the 226 compared to my XD's but it will be late if I can get it done. I don't think you would go wrong with the 226, I have no experience with the 229 but have heard good things about it on the Sig forum I recently joined.

you can get the FNP's for mid to low 400's they are nice guns. If you want a gun that will be closest to the xd then the 229 would be the closest we shoot 225 226 and 229's in acad all great guns.

The grip on a SIG is much smaller in feel that a XD. The SIG has a more rounded profile while the XD is more square. I have had both a SIG 229 and 226. I still have the 226 but rarely shoot it. The 229 got sold because it was just taking up space. The 226 was my first competition gun.

As much as I like Sigs, I have to totally agree. I love my FNP9, and I'm even going to get another. Shoots incredibly well, well put together, easy to take down, and is reliable. And, like you said, a lot less $$$$$ that can be better spent on extra mags (if 3 aren't enough for you), and ammo.
