.38 special
just picked up a new in the box taurus model 85 ultra light. it takes the +P's and is crazy light. i got it cheap and was thinking about CCW on my ankle for when i'm at work. but before i shoot it i was wanting some thoughts on this gun as to reliability and quality. should i hang on to it? or trade it for something else?

I've heard nothing but good things about the 85. Plus I just plain like revolvers anyway.

You should sell it to me cheaply...VERY cheaply
Taurus is backed by a manufactures lifetime warranty. Their guns are of good quality and I would have no problems trusting my security to them. I used to own a Mod 66? .357 years ago and really enjoyed it. I currently own a S&W J frame .38 and its my "go to" gun when Im running out the door for a quick run to the store or if I dont want to worry about bulk and weight. Load it up with +P and carry away. They DO have a potent kick though.

The Taurus line of revolvers are incredibly reliable. Had one for awhile and sold it to fund another XD, but I think I will be replacing it with another.

I still have my Model 66 revolver. Everytime I go to the indoor range to shoot, people around me think it's a .44 Mag! They always say, "Damn thats loud!!" I don't know why, but it's the loudest .357 I've ever had.
Taurus revolvers are very reliable, and have a great warranty.

I've got an older 85 and love it. Deadly accurate and fun to shoot.

I don't think the ankle is a good place for a CCW pistol.
It will take at least 10 seconds to draw if you're quick. Also you can't run without having it fling out the bottom of your pant leg! Hang on tight when you shoot that snubby, it will jump a bit!

First time you pop a cap in that, hang on. You're going to be surprised. Especially with +P. That light weight is a dream to carry, but it sure ain't fun to shoot.
I have a Taurus Tracker Titanium 45ACP and it's downright snappy. I don't shoot it much cause it just ain't no fun. lol .

Ya know, I just don't understand all you guys saying the recoil is "snappy"! I just bought my G/F a Taurus 85UltraLite for Christmas. I gotta tell ya, the recoil is soft as a feather to me (and her!). I tried some +P, it wasn't much worse. The guy at the gun shop sold her some "Low Recoil" stuff and I flipped the first time I shot that stuff, I thought I had a squib! I touched it off and it was like shooting my .22.
