NEF Rifle ??

Hi,
I am thinking about getting a New England Firearms ( aka H&R) single shot rifle in 357 mag.for some casual plinking.
I like the idea that it's more powerful than a 22 or 22 mag. and I can buy reloaded/downloaded 38 sp. for just a little more money than 22 mag.
Full house 357 loads out of a 20 " barrel should make a noticable improvement in velocity ( if I were ever inclined).....
Question.....Anyone with experience with these little rifles ? If so, your opinions would be appreciated !!
Thanks for your time ( your most valuable commodity ! ) mike

I have an NEF in .308 that rules.
Accurate and inexpensive.
In a 357/38 plinker, I'd go with a Marlin 1894c lever.

I shot one in 17HMR and loved it.

I think they're great for the money. I still want one, but I am leaning towards the 223, sinceits not much more to shoot 223 than 17HMR.

I've got one in 17HMR, and .223 They are great little rifles. My only complaint is that the stocks are pretty short on them.

True that .223 is not far off in price than .17HMR, but they have a WORLD of difference, performance wise. That .17HMR is awesome.

My son has a NEF "Handi Rifle" single shot .243. For the money, they're good little rifles. A local shop has one chambered in .45-70 with synthetic stocks, but can't find anyone willing to fire it with full house rounds.

I don't blame 'em! After firing that, ask them if they wanna get kicked in the face by a mule too!

those NEF's are great little guns, i have one 45-70, .35 whelen and used to have one in .223.

they are pretty darn accurate and full house 45-70 hurts no matter what you fire it from lol.

Hi,
I might as well throw in my two cents worth.
I had a HK93 I use to shoot. The .223 round is great. I would reload or buy new, usually in bulk. A great round with good performance. I shot that round more than any other rifle or pistol I have had.
