Smith & Wesson M&P

Anyone have experience with this gun? How do you like it? How does it compare to that of the XD (I know, I know). And dare I say, hows the aftermarket support for it so far?

I don't know much about the aftermarket portion of it, but I can tell you this; I don't care for the way it handles all that much, compared to my XD. The grip on the XD is much better...it's wider, I think, so it fits my hands better. The MP40 I looked at seemed overly "thin" to me - it didn't fill my hand out nearly as well. I have big hands though, so this might not even be an issue for others.

However, it's a fine gun. The slide sits very low in the frame, so I'm sure it would be a respectable carry gun. Just not for me.

Did you see the program on the Outdoor Channel last night on the S&W M&P? It was fairly impressive, but I too would like to know a few things about it like...

#1 How close to the old Sigma design is the M&P?

(the Sigma was absolutely awful and I hope the M&P is not a gussied up Sigma)

#2 Is the trigger like the XDs or Glocks trigger?

(if its like the Glock's trigger...you can bet I'll never own one)

#3 Again...the 40 and 9 are ok, but WHEN will it be available in 45ACP?

(You would think that an American based company would know damn well that we ALL want the thing in 45ACP...why not bring it out with the others?)

All in all, it did appear that S&W did their homework, but I have never warmed to any Smith autopistol and I have owned a few.

That is the one thing I could never understand about gun manufacturers. Everyone and their mom will buy the 45 ACP version so why not come out with it too? Really didn't want to get another XD just yet and looking around at other 45s out on the market right now. Considered the Sig P220 as the gun felt like it was built to fit my hand, moreso then the XD. But I am concerned with weight, so I am going to look around to see if something else can fit my hand as well as the Sig, light and comes in 45ACP.

Enjoying my XD .45ACP Tactical. need to break in my 870, and my wife's XDSC9.

I carry my XD45 ACP Tactical, in a SuperTuck from CB. Very comfortable, easy to hide, easy to draw, and easy to reholster.

Looking for an HDR*, either an AR-180B, or Kel-Tec FBR.

HDR, Homeland Defense Rifle

After running out and buying the XD40...then seeing that later on they TREID to offer that silly GAP thingy and then gave into the 45ACP, I am not going through that nonsense again with another pistolmaker.

Beretta is supposed to bring out their PX4 in 45ACP, too. I'd really like to see/hold/shoot both this and the M&P in 45ACP before buying, but I might just grab the XD45ACP and forget about it.

I can KIND OF forgive the Austrians at Glock, the Italians at Beretta, the Germans at HK and the Croatians on the XD, for only bringing out the 9mms and 40s at first, but a company as American as Smith & Wesson? Come on now...they recently started making 1911s...don't tell me they know damn well that guys like me will be standing at the gun counters, looking at the M&P 9s and 40s and saying "thats cool...wheres the 45ACP version?" Those were my exact words when I gave in and bought the XD-40 years ago.

I'd realy like to handle a PX4 and M&P in 45ACP before too very long.

I own the M&P40 and I love it. I also own theXD45. These are 2 of the best guns out there IMO. I bought them after lots of research. I agree, if the M&P came in .45, as I understand it will, I would have bought it too.

I dunno how much it matters, but their M&P15 is a outstanding weapon series. They shoot smooth and very accuratly even when being abused.

Really, how do you know? This isnt a fair assessment unless you've tried all 3 grip panels.

I don't own a M&P 40 but I shot a few rounds out of one in my local range. It was pretty controlable and accurate ( at least at 6 yards). The only thing I didn't like about it was the slide release which is pretty impossible to activate, especially under stress.
