Many thanks to Scott from Springer Precision. I contacted him regarding a trigger job for my daughters p22. He said he could do the job but that the shipping cost would make it not worth it. He then gave me some ideas to make the trigger better myself, wich I promptly did. Now my 9 y/o enjoys shooting her new walther even more for a longer duration! Thank you Scott, When I am ready to do a competition xd-9 in the near future, You will be doing my work.

What did he tell you to do? I have a P22 and would like a little nicer trigger.

My XD-9 subcompact feels like it has about 1/2 inch of "slack" before I squeeze the trigger. I feel like this is a safety concern when I draw and shoot quickly. Since I want to feel like I'm squeezing as soon as I'm on target I find that I'm putting my finger on the trigger much earlier than I "should" so I can already have the slack out when I lock onto the target. If my finger doesn't enter the trigger guard until I'm locked on, I have to quickly pull all of the slack out, then slow down to squeeze. I want to just squeeze and not "quickly pull and then squeeze." Does it sound like your carry trigger job would make me happy? (I would also enjoy the pound or two reduction.) |

I just watched the two grip videos on your website. I have a question. In the first video you start out describing the traditional grip and show a few variations. You say that people that use these grips typically squeeze firmly with the middle and ring finger of their right hands. (I grip pretty firm with those right hand fingers and use a straight thumbs on both hands.) What I didn't catch is whether your suggested high and straight left wrist technique reduces the amount of pressure the two fingers on the RIGHT hand put on the grip. I got the impression that the point of the "don't try this at home" demo was that the right hand really isn't doing much to control recoil anyway so don't waste energy squeezing the heck out of the grip. I'd like to try your suggested grip at the range this weekend, but wasn't sure if I should focus on squeezing less with the right hand fingers. That high and straight left wrist will be interesting. That is a pretty common concern, and I do a lot of carry trigger job for the same reason. It makes follow up shots much easier also. I added a little video of the carry trigger to my website in the faq.

Bingo! I have a set of shorter videos planned for the spring (because it is dang cold out until then) and will be breaking things down more (since that was a spur of the moment thing) but you got the general idea of it.
If you squeeze too hard with your right hand it makes it more difficult to manipulate the trigger without moving the sights around AND you manuipulate the trigger slower. You just need to hold on to it like you are shaking someone's hand with the strong hand, and like you are trying to break someone's hand with the left ps. Stubbies without a grip extension can be a bit harder to hold. Some tape or texture on the weakhand side can sure help. Quote:
