Question about glock pistols ?

I just bought a glock 19 pistol and took it out to try it at the range. The pistol shot good but I am having a problem with my grip and the glock pistol. My grip is a thumb over thumb with both pointing the same direction as the barrel. When shooting it my thumb rides the slide catch causing the slide to close when the mag is run empty. I don't have the same problem with my XD's. I am not a new shooter either. Any one else have a problem with the glocks and the slide catch. I don't want to try and modify my grip for one gun. Any thoughts ?

I have the same problem with my XDs. I wouldn't think you'd have to change your grip drastically to solve this problem, but I may be wrong?

Instead of letting your thumbs ride against the slide like a 1911, curl them down a la Ayoob. Basically, the right hand thumb should curl under slightly and the pad of the left thumb should ride on the right thumbnail. If you have more questions about this, visit http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/ayoob85.html. There is a picture of a 1911 about half-way down the page. Try that out. I use a slightly modified version of that grip. Lemme know.

Had this same problem when I first fired my .40 service XD. It took a major effort (and several boxes of WWB!) to learn new mucle memory for the grip, but I corrected it. Now, when I bring the XD to the ready fire position, my strong hand thumb is resting over the first knuckle of the week hand thumb and pushes down. I use the "push" - "pull" method (stong hand pushes, weak hand pulls) and it works well for me. Try it - you'll be surprised at the increased accuracy of your POI.
