Coyote Gun Question - XDTalk Forums - Your HS2000/SA-XD Information Source!

Just getting into coyote hunting, need some help. I have been looking at savage rifles in .22-250 for shooting coyotes. Today, at the sporting goods store was one with a heavy barrel and a 4-12x40 scope and the accutrigger for 599.99. Right next to it was a Rossi .22-250 heavy barreled single shot rifle with a 6-24x50 scope for 299.99. The cost puts the rossi in my reach, but will I regret not going with the savage? I live in NV and would sight my gun in for coyotes probably at 150 or 250 yards. Remember that on top of the guns, Ill be out another $150 on some snipe pods and a good sling.

THe savage accutrigger is one of the best box stock triggers there is for rifles. If it does not have this trigger and you put the shot where it counts the first time get the rossi. My coyote gun is an ar 15, point of dog out to 300 yards! My next build will either be a lite ar 15 for 3 gun or a ar 10 308 for an everything gun.

I had a Remy 22-250 Lam stock Great looking rifle.Well anyway,I flipped a yote at 300 yards it was GREAT.I brought it back to the farmer that want me to kill a few for him and he was like JUST WOW!My 2cts 22-250 is WAY hard to beat at long range.At a 100 yards with WWB ammo I could put 5 shots in the size of a dime,damn I miss that rifle.

So which one should I get? Bolth are .22-250 bolth are heavy barrels. One holds 5 and has accutrigger, one holds one period.

Either of those would make an excellent yote gun. As far as follow-up shots, it's possible to reload a SS pretty darn fast with practice.

So any experience with Rossi? Am I going to get the single shot, save the cash and then kick myself when the gun falls apart? It seemed great at the store, but you know that can be decieving. thanks for the help

If I were you, I would look at "Handy Rifles" which are also single shot. They make a heavy barreled 25-06 that would be a perfect coyote gun. Of course they have the 22-250 as well, but in my opinion, the 25-06 is a better all around caliber for coyote hunting. Plus, you never know when you might need it for deer hunting. Look at the HR rifles they have an awesome reputation for accuracy, and are about the same price.

You might consider a .30 caliber coyote gun. It's just the fact that .30 will get you into elk and a little beyond. However, the Savage might be worth saving for. It is a great trigger. I prefer the CZ, but that's me. The Rossi, however, will surely be good to 250+. That's really not that far for a .22-250. Go for it if you want one now.

I have no direct experience with Rossi rifles but I have the same savage rifle you're talking about. I would go with the savage If I were you, just for the accutriger. It really enhances the accuracy of an already accurate rifle. I didn't like the factory stock so I replaced it with a bell & Carlson wich made it even more accurate. Hope this helps

I'd go with the Savage. I can't speak for Rossi quality.
