Ithaca model 37
I just got one! It was my dads and he handed it down for me for Christmas. It is in real nice shape (I can't ever remember him shooting it as he favored his Ithaca 16ga), and functions well. Anyone have any tips or experience they would like to share? I am hoping to take it out for a test ride sometime this week.

My father-in-law has hunted for a bazillion years and after trying many others, only shoots Ithacas. I'm not much of a shotgun guy myself, but he has killed more things in the field that I can count and never had problems with the brand.
Good luck! |

I just noticed this post today.
I inherited my grandfather's Ithaca 37 12 gauge shotgun. I've only gotten to "use" it once, at the range, for my first time w/ clay pigeons. I had a range officer help me understand it better, and I shot a test pattern, and then learned the "ways" of blasting clay pigeons. "Pull" ... BANG!!!! It's rewarding to see pieces of orange clay raining down.... OMG, I love that gun!! I'd never get rid of it for sentimental reasons. You have a nice gun there, believe me.

Found a pristine one for my brother for $200, couple of years back. He loves 'em.

My cousin got one for Christmas years ago, great guns. I believe the military used them at one time as well.

Ive had it out 3 times now shooting clays, and I gotta say. I am impressed for a 25 year old gun it functions perfectly. I actually like the bottom eject too. I wasnt too sure about it at first, but it works out nice.

I have my grandfather's Winchester Model 12 in 16 gauge. It was made in 1920.
Great shooter. The Ithaca 37 was a very high quality pump-gun like the Model 12. I love the 16 gauge for dove hunting and every now and then I take out the old 16 gauge for a dove hunt. My brother has a 16 gauge Belgian Browning A-5 and Dad has an early Remington 870 in 16 gauge, so we are all fans of the 16 gauge. For upland hunting, its really a perfect round. - Brickboy240

Ithaca 37
Another JM Browning design.
I've got two, one in 12 made in the '60s and which was my first shotgun, and one made about five years ago when the plant in King's Ferry was still operational. The latter is a 16 with upgraded wood and an aluminum receiver that makes a great Snake River breaks chukar gun. I'm glad to hear someone in Ohio has taken over production. It'd be a shame to see them no longer made. |
