Thumbs up My unexpected Christmas present

Well after everyone was through opening Christmas presents today, my Grandpa pulled me aside and took me out to his car. He handed me a pistol case and said, "This was your Dad's." I opened it up, and it was my Dad's backup 38 special that he used on the Phoenix Police. Engraved under the cylinder was PX PD. Don't know if any of you saw my tattoo on here, but my Dad was on the force for 18 years. He died in 1990 when I was 7 from a brain tumor. I was so overwhelmed, I didn't know what to say. This is probably the best addition to my collection. I am even thinking of using it as my concealed gun. There will be pictures to follow when I get a chance.

awesome, must have been touching to say the least to hold that gun as your own, let alone see it.
sorry for your loss, have a happy holiday tho.

Wow, that gun has some sentimental value. Personally, I wouldn't carry it.

That is a tough decision. Personally, I probably would carry it. There's something about carrying the same firearm your father trusted his life with that makes my nostalgiac personality flare up. It is the sentiment of two generations carrying the same firearm. Should you ever have to use it, God forbid, I think that would be the thing your father would have wanted. I don't claim to know your father, but that's just what I imagine in my semi-insane, over-creative mind. It protected him and it will protect you.

I would not carry it, dont carry anything you arnt willing to loose. A gun such as that has value well beyond its practical use as a firearm. You cant break the cycle either, you want the gun to be in the same condition its in now when you give it to your son. Thats just my worthless opinion.

From a quick web search I think it's a S&W model 60. Anybody know for sure because I don't see a model on the gun at all.

I think I'd get a presentation box and not carry it.
