Phew, that was close...

I just ran over to the local gun shop and damn near walked out with an HK USP Compact!

I've been in the market for something new, and have been thinking for weeks about a Sig 239, but it's hard finding one around here (in 9mm). So, I never really considered HKs until yesterday, and then I started doing my research. Called the shop, they had a USP Comp in 9mm, so I checked it out.

I'd never handled an HK before, but WOW it was nice!! It's the V1 model, which is what I want...SA/DA, decocker & safety.

The price tag on the gun at the shop stopped my heart for a second; Buds has them for about $100 cheaper. But the way I'm looking at it is, after S&H and FFL fees, I'm only going to save maybe $30 or so. So this way, I can give the business to my local guys.

Anyhoo, it didn't come home with me because the shop guy told me there was a gun show in town tomorrow. Never been to a show, so I figure I'll go and see what's there and if I can find one cheaper.

I'm sure there are members here that have experience with the USP Compact...what are your likes/dislikes of it? I'm reeeeally impressed with my first impressions, but again, I have no experience with them. If I pick it up tomorrow, I'll let y'all know!

They are very nice pistols. I traded mine in on a Sig, for personal reasons and the Sig fit me better. But I was never disappointed by the performance from my HK compact. I don't think you will go wrong in purchasing one.

my biggest DISlike about all HK's in general is the high bore axis.

those sights feel like they are a FOOT above your hand.

If you own that King Air and don't just drive it, I don't see how $100 or $1000 would sour a deal for you.

Hahaha, I WISH I owned it because you're right, price wouldn't matter!

I just got back from my first gun show...yes, I'm no longer a Gun Show virgin. Wow! It was awesome! It was hard to keep my tongue in my mouth as I walked past the hundreds of ARs and SOCOMs. I found an HK USP .40 and 3 mags for $520...the thing looked BRAND new. No wear at all. Asked the guy what the round count was and he said he thought the guy put "About 12" through it! I almost bought it, but alas, I want a 9mm. Also saw a Sig 239 for $419 and it, too, looked like it was new. I know HK and Sig make high quality firearms, but part of me still finds comfort in buying NIB guns.

419 for a Sig 239 that looked new is a steal, I would have bought that thing in a heart beat! BTW, Sigs hold up VERY well long term.

I agree- the more and more I think about it here at home I'm kickin' myself. If the show's running tomorrow, too, I think I might head back and see if it's still there and find out a bit more about it. I couldn't find one single mark on it. At first I thought some of the finish was worn on a couple levers, but I looked closely and it was just the reflecting light. Very nice piece!

Absolutely! If its open tomorrow, get up early and go buy it. SIG's are accurate, durable, extremely well built guns with great triggers. My friend has a P228 and its a fantastic shooter. The size of the 239 makes it a great carry gun too.
