List Your Top Five Guns
New to this board, I know this is a cliche of a post really, but hey some of you who posted in the last one may have handled new guns and need to update your list anyway. You can tell why if you want, or just list them. I'm long winded, so I'll tell you why:
(Note: I've never served in the military, been on a police force, or anything. I don't even hunt. I don't carry, unless you count stowing a gun under the seat of my truck. So my list is more a "fun to plink around with" list. Also, I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to come across as any authority on anything, I'm just a fat redneck that likes to fill up empty milk jugs with water and shoot them and try headshots on water moccassins now and then.) 1. Smith & Wesson 686 Plus I got this gun used from a gun store. It was in really good shape. I like it because it's loud, it fires a massively powerful round, and it's fun to kick off some rounds with. And it's crazy accurate, even in my less-that-stellar shooting hands. Going by my own FBI (Fat Boy Institue) ballistics testing, a .357 Magnum obliterates milk jugs more effectively than 9mm or .40 or even .45. So if you ever have a crazed milk jug after you, this is your go to gun. Plus, I'm really biased towards revolvers. 2. HK Mark 23 I have to admit that this gun is bittersweet as far as my shooting experience goes with it. It's sweet because it's just a really bad*** gun to hold and handle and shoot with, it's bitter because I know that the gun can pull off custom gun level groups like clockwork, yet Yours Truly can't shoot all that great with it. My cousins are better shots than me, one is what I'd call above average and the other is a deadeye dick type shooter (PS - I'm bringing back the term "deadeye dick" because history should not lose such rad terms). One day while shooting Shoot-N-See targets, the above average shooter did a good round, and then his brother (the deadeye dick!) hit a seven shot string where the holes were touching. It was unreal. I only have 10 rounders for this bad boy, I need the real magazines though, and I'll get it as soon as my black market organ selling scheme has succeeded (and as soon as I figure out how to grow extra kidneys to sell to afford the mags). 3. Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum If you haven't shot one of these, please for the love of Abba, track down a range that has one or buddy up to someone who has one, and go through at least two cylinder loads. It's a beast, but not to the point of hurting you that you'd think, if you haven't shot one. A Ruger Redhawk with hotter loads and wood grips will beat you up way before a 500 with 440 grain Cor Bons will, I am not lying to you, treasured reader. I shot a 5 round FBI ballistics test through a 30 gallon drum full of water (plastic drum), laying down. Two rounds went entirely through the drum, the other three got stuck coming out. A 30 gallon drum is about three and a half feet tall (wild guesstimate), so it shot through that much water (and the drum was slap full, so it wasn't like I caught the top part where there was no water, see what I'm saying? 4. Beretta 92FS There are two kind of people concerning the 92, for the most part: those that hate its guts because it dared to replace the 1911, and those who have given it a chance and realized that it's a really super sweet pistol. I love it. Just racking the action with the mag out and the gun empty tells you all you need to know about it, it's glass on glass and slides as well as a few customed up 1911s I've handled. Put some Houge wraparounds with a finger grip on it, and watch in awe as you shoot twice as good instantly. For some reason, though, I can shoot the Taurus clone better when they both are Houge free. It kind of ticks me off that that's the case. But I've gotten better with the 'retter! (poetry added for no additional cost!) 5. Sig 220/229 (tie!) My cousin (the good shot, not the deadeye dick) has a 220. We went to a gun show, he was looking to trade in a Sig PRO in .40 on something. Guy there (not a vendor, just Some Random Guy) offered My Cousin a few knives and fifty bucks for his Sig PRO. I told My Cousin to hold off on that and let's see what all was out there. We ran into a guy who would trade the PRO for a 220, with us owing a bit of cash. Told my cousin to jump on it. He did. Told My Cousin that he was going to soon have a favorite new gun. Pending. The 220 is an insane, insane, insane gun when it comes to accuracy. It feels like you're holding a work of art in your hands when you're holding it (and really, you are). I got a 229 police trade in chambered in .357 SIG. It is mega awesome. It is also crazy accurate. I realize now that I left off the GLOCK 20, which is a shame since I really love that gun like a fat kid love cake, but so be it. If it wasn't for the joy of touching off elephant killing rounds from a huge revolver, the G20 would probably be my #3 gun ("So why isn't it your #4 gun then, FATSEXY?" "You ask too many questions.") |

1.SAKO 75 Varmiter in 22-250 this gun shoots 1/2" groups at 200 yds with my Handloads.
2.Kimber Custom Target 2 .45 Tripp research did a hard chrome job on this pistol and it shoots. 3. M15 Armalite match with JP trigger 1 1/4 in groups at 200 yds this is a yote killing machine. 4. Winchester Supreme O/U 12 gauge made by FN but fits me much better than any Browning. 5. This one is a tossup between two .44 mags a Ruger super Blackhawk that I've had since my 22nd birthday and a Ruger Redhawk that I just took in on trade the Blackhawk has been the most solid handgun I've ever owned and has taken all kinds of deer with loads that will destroy lesser revolvers, cough S&W 629 cough. The Redhawk seems to love my 240 grain AA9 recipe, again too much for the S&W. Not all of my weapons are beauty queens I buy guns to use and if i cant bear to take them into the field I get rid if them and buy something I can. Or if they are sub standard they go down the road, Again S&W 629. The only one I still own that I have mixed feelings about is My Para LDA CCW and if it wasnt for the fact that I'd lose my ass on a trade in it would have been replaced long ago With a Dan Wesson Bobtail comander.
