Can i replace the hammer on a GP100?

I was all set to buy a GP100 from a guy at Glocktalk but he backed out at the last minute.

So I am still looking. I have seen a few GP100s for a descent price except that they say the hammer spur was removed at the factory. It also appears that all of them have a regular barrel not the fully supported barrel. Is it possible if I get one of these to just get a regular hammer with the spur and replace it? Also, is there a down side to not having the full underlug?

Does anyone know the history on these DAO skinny barrel models. Police models maybe?

There are two people trying to sell GP100's on this site, I think. Have you looked at the Trading Post? Good luck. They are excellent guns. Mine was my first handgun, and probably the one I would have the hardest time parting with.

Some DAO revolvers have had the sear engagement modified so that they cannot be cocked to fire single action even if the hammer is replaced.

They're just flat out DAO only.

However, I don't know this to be true about the Rugers you are referring to.

I've seen these guns you describe referred to as police trade-ins.

I guess you could replace most all the guts and come out with a SA/DA revolver but I think you'd be better off to keep searching for one that's not modified.

Good Luck,

bd
