ccw reciprocity..
Hey guys I’ll try to make this quick...
I currently live in TX and am going to school. I'll be graduating in May and am going to be moving back east (where I am originally from). I was trying to decide if I should get a Texas CCW permit or a Florida permit and finally decided it would make more sense to get a Florida permit because it covers Ohio where I have family. I sent off the packet a week ago and they received it this Monday. (By the way this first week seemed long as hell; I don't even want to know what week 8 feels like). Anyway, once I receive the license I plan on carrying here in TX until I leave because Florida and Texas have reciprocity with each other. My question is this: I was curious what your experiences were with law enforcement when you are in another state other than your own and you are covered under reciprocity using an out-of-state CHL. Do most officers know these laws? Do they give you a hard time simply because they don’t know if your "out of state" license is covered or not in their state? I don't mean to sound like I’m belittling LEO's because my plan is to move back home and join the local PD. I obviously want to follow the law. I know most of you might say "well just get a TX CHL just to be sure"...this should not be the only other choice or else there would be no use for reciprocity between states to begin with. Am I just over-reacting? I would hate to have to get my car towed and have a trip downtown just to have the arresting officer find out I was OK and then have to deal with being without my car, downtown, etc, etc... any insight would be appreciated. Thanks guys... |

I would reccomend going to Packing.org. They specilize in this sort of thing (CCW). I would get the Licence from the state you will be residing in. Make sure other state recipricate and you should be fine. Remember that you will me protected (to a degree) by peacable journy laws. Also make sure you familarize yourself with the laws of the state you will be going to.
An example is that Ohio required the first thing oyu do if pulled over is to notify the LEO that you have a licence and whether you are carring or not. |

yeah i've check packing.org and talked to CHL instructors that teach in TX as well as the Department of Public Safety in Austin about it and they all said that you are covered in TX under the Florida permit. My home state that i will be going back home to is Maryland. As we all know, they don't hand out CHL permits to many people. That problem won't really be an issue if i hopefully get into the academy. The ccw would be more to travel to surrounding states and visting my parents family in Ohio under FL reciprocity..

You may try here: http://www.handgunlaw.us/
I've heard that packing.org has some out of date info on it lately. |
